My bose on my 98 is a little iffy lately. It plays a little weird and i kinda want a little change. I want a small/medium sized sub. most likely a single 10" or something. Not looking for high end stuff just a budget/ best bang for the buck type. With my understanding i would need a PAC adapter for the addition of the sub. Also i was considering getting a headunit as well. To my understand with this i would need a diffrent PAC unit for this but after that i could just hook up my sub to the rear ports on my new headunit.
Am I understanding all this info correctly? Or would i still need a 2nd adapter for the aftermarket unit and sub. I'm looking at a mid-range Alpine headunit w/ mp3. right now i've set aside about $300 for this idea. I'm sure that is enough for either/or but not both.
I'm not really looking to swap out all my bose or anything like that. I'm not a hardcore audio person at all. My bose is fairly decent for me, but i would like a little more ;)

You dont need any adapters for the addition of a sub. You need the signal for a rear speaker before the bose amp (low level), and the wire that supplies power to the rear bose amp. Signal wires go to the new sub powering amp, power wire goes to the remote turn on. Voila. Set a low pass filter or put one inline between the wire and the amp and you're set from that perspective.
This is how I did it, i'll take some pics tomorrow.

i'm not too smart with audio technical phrase as well.
But from what i understand, splice into a signal wire going to one of my rears?
i was looking at a quick diagram and it seems 4 wires in the rear. 2 wires pre-amp. So i'm assuming i take the + wire at the preamp, splice run that signal wire to my speaker or amp i guess and then run my power and ground to this as well.

if your bose is iffy, you need new speakers, not just a sub.

i'm actually reading up on the bose diagrams and etc and it falls under the sympotons of loose ground wire, I'm sure thats the case, but also i already have a spare set of bose speakers i bought off ebay. =P All 4 actually, I was thinking of when i go to setup the sub i'll just go swap out the speakers as well if the ground didn't fix it.
back on topic, am i thinking correctly with what i posted above. And what would be a decent way i spend my money, either on the HU or a sub/amp combo.

The 4 wires going into the amp are what you need to splice into. 2 of them are signal, one is a ground, the other is +12v. The +12v is the one you want to connect to the REM terminal on teh amp. The signal wires are what you want to convert to an RCA terminal and plug into the amp's input.

if your gonna get an aftermarket head unit you wont need to splice anything from the speakers... your gonna need a an amp integration harness for the headunit, so there is sound coming out of your speakers... your better off buyin the harness online before you go spend 50-60 bucks at best buy or some other shop..... http://www.millionbuy.com/met707551.htm from there its all easy..... you need help doing it let me know ill help you out.
