Battle of the VQ! 4th gen vs 5th gen..

2000-2001 Maxima SE

Stopped at the intersection in the right lane I take look in my rearview mirror and find a white 00-01 Maxima SE speeding toward me in the distance. Visually it had a Stillen kit, Stillen Banner, a silver mesh grille and heavy tint. He pulls up half a carlength in front of me when we are stopped. There is a good 1/4 mile before a bend. The light turns green and we moderatly accelerate 15 yards .... with my front bumper even with the middle of his car. All of a sudden at the crosswalk he goes WOT! I go WOT the split second he does since I sensed it coming! Even if he hadnt gone WOT before I did ... I knew he would play along right after. Therefore it was a coincidence that we went WOT within the same second :ghost: anyway I start to slowly inch up on him. At this point my front bumper is even with his mirror around 45 mph and till 65 mph positions stay the same (No one gains on one another) After 65 he starts to inch away and at this point my front bumper is even with the middle of his car. We hit 82 and my front wheels are even with his rear wheels. Then we brake hard because of the oncoming bend. On the bend I continue straight .....he makes a left and honks 3 times to say goodbye I guess.

My thoughts: He was an automatic for sure but I was impressed that I kept up with a 5th gen 15 mph to 82 mph.

I say he had something heavy in his trunk or his car isnt running right, 32 hp difference and I think its about the same torquewise not sure about torque but good job I guess :)

No surprise there. The 00-01 has the same engine as the 4th except for the VI. It has more horsepower but it is offset by the extra weight of the car. If you ahd the same results against a 3.5 I would have said good job. He started inching away because the VI kicks in at higher speeds.

Yea the 5th gen is carrying extra weight. I know top end he would have walked me because of the better vi. Also I found out the guy is on the org. What a coincidence!

Nice race man i wasnt expecting that you were an automatic. I thought it was you, i was expecting this in the regional forums and i find it here. Good Race i was heading to my friends house to watch the pro-bowl. I've run against 4th gen automatics before and none of them kept up with me liek you did. My cars an automatic intake,y-pipe, frankencar catback. I didnt think you were gonna race but then saw you give it some gas after the lights went green like you were just gonna accelerate faster, so i gun it and i noticed you were running with me. I was like dam i should of lined up with him, sorry i thought you were just some old dude in a max wasnt expecting a young forum member.
