Today I took my 95 GXE 5-speed in to have the original clutch replaced. When they got it up in the air, they noticed their was fluid on teh bottom of the transmission and they found a crack in it. They showed it to me and I ended up not having them replace the clutch because I didn't want them to have to drop the tranny, and then drop it again when I needed to have the transmission replaced. They told me they could do this thing where they sand the area around it and then use epoxy stuff to make it like hardened steal around the crack. I am weary about this idea though and I think I would rather just have a rebuilt transmission put in. What is everybody else's idea on this, I mean the thing is, I'd just like the feeling of having a new tranny in also but I'm not sure what the best choice is. Also where can I get rebuilt transmissions for a good price?

Have the crack welded back up, there are plenty of places around here which weld aluminum.

I wouldnt like the idea of a patched up tranny either. im thinking they just want to jb weld it. thats what i did on my dirt bike. it holds but i wouldnt like it on a car for something that important. i would like a new one. but itll cost more. of course.
i guess acually welding it might work too. i didnt think of that.

new transmission is about $2000 from nissan plus tax. Having mike help you out or getting it welded might be a lot cheaper, maybe $1000+ cheaper.

ya it's just you're always on but you usually don't respond, I am busy through the week and the weekend is just much much easier to have something taken care of. During the school week I can't get it out to you and get rides back and forth. I understand you're busy but the clutch is so bad I just can't wait. I know I didn't give you much notice that I needed it done, sorry.

I told ya, I work durring the week and Saturdays are EXCEPTIONS, as sometimes I have stuff going on with family, dental/doctor appoitments, deliveries etc. I am not going to go OUT of my way to help you out, I told ya already when I could do it- this Wed or Thursday. And what did you do ? took it to a shop who basically told ya the tranny is fucked.

I don't have AIM on my phone, that would be obsurd. I don't need people AIMing me for BS stuff while I am in the middle of dinner or something. I have enough AIMs on my PC.
