I guess that's why the 3rd gen only lasted 4 years.

i used to have a 3rd gen, had it been a 5spd i'd prolly still have it. Loved the features, heated mirrors, leather, etc and yeah the VLSD.

i used to have a 3rd gen too...the freaken heater would not work at all whatsoever...the themostats goes in cause the car to overheat...when it's out it's fine....when it's in again and it doesnt' over heat the heater would not work....changed heater coil and everything would not work....end the end got tirred of it and gave it away.

GF's dad is a Nissan mechanic, his 89 Maxima often had crappy heat. Mostly when it was REAAAAAL goddam cold out. Said he could never figure it out, but that the later years of 3rd gens were better. Ah well.

I almost bought a 92 SE once, it was a touch more rusty than I wanted though, plus those damn motorized belts. Watched the movie "Transporter 2" last night... in one scene, they're chasing through a parking garage. This ~90 Maxima is backing out of a spot, the Transporter avoids it, but then a police car runs into it and destroys it. It was kinda sad.

a 3rd gen got totalled
I say we boycott the movie until they rebuild it to like new condition and redo the scene with a toyota camry!

oh, 89 maximas have the heater core higher than the radiator cap so to bleed them you needed to lift the front end up about 39" with the rear wheels still on the ground.

All the VG 3rd gens have the issue.
my VE doesn't

Movie was still pretty good, but not quite as good as the first one. He had an awesome last-gen manual trans 7-series in the first one, in this movie he had an A8. Car was badazz, and the chases were awesome, but not quite as exciting when they'd show a shot of him putting it in reverse or drive compared to watching him row through a manual.

Sounds like the GF's dad didn't know that trick. Kinda funny they'd design it in like that.

they didn't design it in.
they caught it late in the year when they started having cars come in that had lost coolant.

they released a TSB on it.

I am an ex-3rd gen owner. I actually had 2 of them...

Mine was a '94 SE blk/blk 5-speed w/ 155K miles. I sold it for my '02 Max. It was cleaner inside and out than any other max i had ever seen. :(

My sis had a '90 GXE that we just sold last year w/ 255K miles. Had that one since new w/ no problems whatsoever. Original tranny & engine. :)

I got plenty of love for you guys.
