So my buddy's friend has an 05 STI. He really wanted to race me to see how he would do. Aftering some nagging I said "ok." So off we go. We go to this one location and race. At the yellow pole was the finish line. Off the line he gets me easily by 1.5-2 car lengths. As I shift into 2nd gear, I instantly get a jump on him and slowly gain on him. At rougly 80 MPH I am 1/2 a car behind him but then by that time we have already reached the yellow pole. We did a few runs and every run was the same.

I guess the guy can't drive for shit cause you;re a 14.4s carm hes a 13.2s car. I know those are magazine times but yeah. At least he's better than that sti that ran high 17s at the track...

pwned? He pwned me only once when I missed 2nd gear =D. He's obviously a bad driver. I told you all in advance that he was probably an AWD noob.

when i was trying to get a subaru and reading up in the forums, people tend to upgrade/downgrade between the sti/s2k... some even own both for 1 summer car and 1 winter car... i dunno where i am going with this...

yeah, that sti should have kicked your ass, your buddy cant drive stick or launch an awd for shit.

now if he did it the right way, he would have wipped your ass and had icecream at the same time too, but all he got was a fender length.

I have yet to meet a S2K driver that didn't think his car is a 12 second car cause it revs to 9K RPM and has VTEC, yet has as much TQ as one of these....
http://i3.ebayimg.com/01/i/08/a2/58/bb_1.JPG

Let me drive the Subie and I will tear it up..... I ran the same STI on diff occasions 3 times and each time I completly destroyed him to 100MPH. Bad driver can make a Viper look like a 17 second car if he doesnt know how to handle the car.

LOL After driving it for the last few months, I finally realized that it wasn't that fasat. That is why I gave up on performance. All show no go. Besides, it's not all about torque and what engine you have. Gear ratio, weight, handling, and such counts too. But yeah, we shall see at the upcoming track event =D.

that doesnt mean shit and u know it..... compare a ferarri to new z06... compare the price also...
when u can waste all of those for around about 5gs in a ls1

Ovaltine Jenkins
10-16-2006, 12:54 PM
when you just compare raw power then yes, the z06 is a steal. Everything else, it's a chevy cobalt with a fiberglass body. Crap quality in and out. You can only live off a great engine for so long.......

That quote makes sense sort of. But says nothing for diesels with 300hp and 900 TQ ?

and your top speed in top gear will be what, 115mph?

b00b
10-16-2006, 06:08 PM
Top speed is said to be around 150MPH. The car goes 0-60 in stock form in 5.5 seconds. With the gears it's about 5.0 seconds. Here is the video showing 4.57 gears vs stock gearing.

The 04-05 I believe had a different gear set. As for the 1/4 mile time. Tons of people have reached 13's stock. I think it was the gear set that could reach 167 MPH but then the car is drag limited to 150 or so. So the gearing for top speed shouldn't matter.

yeah, the max needs some aftermarket gears. Longer 1st, second and third, leave 4th alone, and a much longer 5th...........

Stick or auto?
does he Skip Shift feature deactivated (if it's a 6 spd stick)?

WHAAA ? No way...... I dissagree. I would love to have MY current tranny but with 1 extra gear and same gearing as the 2002 Sentra Spec V. That shit was some really short gearing and good 6th gear. I think it would cut my acceleration times by far......

It is a 4spd auto. it will downshift into 1st, which feels GREAT, then shift into 2nd at what feels like too low of RPM.

that's the problem with the 700/4l60(e) the drop for first to second is way too severe for optimum acceleration.

as far as the RPM goes, they are usually programmed to shift early for fuel economy. also the small block is not a real revvy motor from the factory, part of the reason I sold mine
