I remember once buying an axle from Murrays and I left it in the box for couple weeks till it was going to be installed. I'm glad we didn't install it right away. The mofo was already leaking grease. I remember looking at the box like WTF there's grease marks.

i've gotten CV axles, pads and rotors on my mom's camry 3 years ago. And today they are still good. Well the axles are the pads are getting low but its normal wear. They are hit or misses really. I'm not trying to say anything but maybe the installation wasn't proper or the driver just hit a huge pot hole.

as for the axle leaking already, thats the main reason why i look over everything at the store flex things play with things and never install them right away unless its something easy to R/I

My carquest axles have held up just fine since the trans swap over a year ago.

i dunno.... i keep getting them from the same store... the first axle died about six months after i got my car.. then 2 months later the other took a dump..
they lasted about 1.5 years then the passanger side went not too long ago... and now the drivers went... this sucks.. its already put together....

Here is the thing bout Raxles.....

You get it and the axle looks like some kinda show piece, it really does NOT deserve to be on a car. It looks PIMP as hell.

Axle comes with a some shop rags, latex gloves, lil swiss army knife to open up the package with, return label to ship out your old axle back to Marty @ Raxles, DIRECTIONS from your house to the nearest drop off location where you can ship the axle from, brand new cotter pin and axle nut.

I would love to have a set of those on my car, but I NEEDED them for this weekend and I just went with Brians stuff. If it breaks I will get Raxles, cause thats originally what I really wanted. I didn't end up racing this weekend as anticipated cause I overslept plus the weather was shitty, so I have yet to get the ones from Brian.

Just a lil 411- on Raxles and their GREAT customer service. 175 PER axle BTW.

Sweeeet! I'll pay 175 if it lasts 10 yrs like my original set... $350 for the set/100k miles = 0.35 cents per mile - it's well worth it IMO. Plus I don't have the time to do that sh~t over and over again even if I can get lifetime warranty locally... I used to "think" of my own labor as being free, but once you have kids and a family - it's not free ;)

I don't have the time to deal with shimmy's, faulty joints, axles breaking etc...

I'm kinda affraid of aftermarket axles on my Maxima, I hope they perform atleast like OEM- and have no vibrations. I don't drive like a loose nut behind the wheel- unlike some people who destroy transmissions all the time, I have yet to destroy a tranny. I drive HARD, but I also know what all those power/speed shifts will do to your bearings.

Raxles also uses AMSOIL synthetic grease and they seem to use a silicone bassed boot vs flimsy rubber.

Ya - I read about the silicone boot - but hadn't read about the synthetic grease. I have a crazy shimmy at speeds above 60 - worse when I'm taking a curve on a highway - so I'm pretty sure it's my axles. I've still got the original axles my 96 came with - I had both sides rebooted at 90k right before the boots had split. Switching rims/tires, and LCAs tie-rod ends, suspension hasn't helped cure the shimmy - so I'm inclined to order some raxles and throw them in. Then at least I can rule that out as a problem for the next 100k ;) Maybe I'll do this next summer... It's going to be a pain to get my old axles out - that bracket is going to be rusted on like nobody's business. I don't think they've every been removed - I rebooted them while on the car :)

170K on my drivers side one with no signs of going bad... but I figure might as well do em now. My pass side one is the one that needs attention ! Slowly getting vibrations from the "been ripped for since spring" inner CV joint..... I have the boot, just too bussy to re-boot it. Inners suck ass to do also.

walec05
10-24-2006, 10:11 PM
yeah, the outers are the easiest to re boot, all you do is take it appart slowly, but ive taken my share of axles apart, and put them together.....cough cough RYAN cough cough......

I've had pepboys and murry's axles for more than two years now, and both of them I beat them to shit, and so far they are holding up fine. Knock on wood.

Just of of curiosity are you torqueing the locking nut correctly? Suppose to be anywhere between 180lbs to 200lbs of torque.

10-25-2006, 12:57 AM
220 lbs like it says in the book... look guys im not a redneck or anything.. i know how to work on cars... i dont ghetto rig stuff.. nor do i ignore simple percautions... i have never let anybody touch my car and all the things that i have worked on are functioning.. minus the crappy after market parts... never again..

time to revive an older thread.....i need to replace axles now, and dont have time to get raxles. as said above, autozone and murrays are crap, but are napa parts in general good? im thinking about getting NAPA axles.

ask paul for axles. He can get remaned ones for cheap........

Mr Grey
03-16-2007, 05:12 PM
I actually have a driver side axle I never got to put on during winter. The car has held, and I won't be needing it anymore. You can take it from me....just let me know.

thing is, im still in miami right now, and im getting some pretty bad noises last night and today. i need to replace it soon, and now im pretty sure i need to replace it before i do the drive back up to chicago at the end of april. i talked to a couple of local maxima guys over here and they said they'd be able to do it this sunday, or two weeks from now. id rather do it this weekend so im thinking of getting NAPA axles over the autozone/murrays ones.

if i go thru paul or brian i'll have to get them changed out in 2 weeks. if the napa quality is on par w/ the autozone ones, i'll wait two weeks and order from somebody else. if NAPA axles are good, i'll just get it and have it tossed on this weekend.

Mr Grey
03-16-2007, 05:25 PM
I believe Napa might be a lil better..........

walec05
03-17-2007, 07:00 AM
yeah, napa is better over murrays or autozone, but they also rape you on the price, even if you have an account with them.

I need to replace my front axles according to nissan they quoted $600 for everything. Can I do better than this? Or is this about right?

Brian
05-07-2007, 09:46 AM
yes you can do better.
I've seen places do axles installed for like $130 per side

walec05
05-07-2007, 05:50 PM
i can get rebuilt axles for about $55-$85. installation wise i cant quote you.

Raxles makes the best axles hands down.... I have not had a SINGLE axle that was good but OEM in my Maxima that actually worked from the box. Raxles on the other hand work, great customer service etc.

I had right axle go bad right out of the box.... got Raxle the same day.... now my left one is going- its got bout 4K miles on it. Gonna order a Raxle for that side also, but do it when I do the clutch again.
