cheaper (in the long run) to buy and install the control arm vs fuckin around with pressing out the old ball joint and risking bending the control arm.
Brian on this forum can get you a set cheap.

i replaced my ball joint with one that i got from brian, you're going to need some tools to remove and press in the ball joint. autozone can loan you the tools, you just pay for the tools and when you are done return it to them and get your money back. I'm about to go and replace the ball joint/bearing on the driver side axle also.

if the ball joint fails completely, what do you think will hold your wheel in place?

Good point. I'll let him know.
So how do you know when the ball joints are bad. My friend's bushing or whatever is destroyed and the hub does not stand up. If that makes sense.
