I have Bose. What do you guys recommend as far as everything goes in doing this overhaul, what are good speakers that fit in the doors and rear deck that have good bass(as in better than stock BOSE, which I think it not THAT bad, but it is beginning to tick me off, cuz the bass now starts to sound strained, and real gay, and NO THEY ARE NOT BLOWN, its just the BOSE  ) so what would you recommend in this overhaul?
Thanks

lol, did u not catch the "realistic" part? umm, I really dont know how much a decent setup would run for, but lets just say, 1-2Gs for the hell of it. to start it off, and get the ideas flowing

so, $1k for front stage, subs and amps, and it's up to you if you want a rear fill or not.....

Goldtooth

um, lets leave subs out of it for now, cuz I can always add them later? Would it be better to get speakers that play just higher tones and a sub to play just the low tones, OR like mid-basses for the speakers and no subs?

I had midbass 6.5" in the back and even with only one working, if set up right, I could notice the nice bass. Of course midbass speakers are just component speakers with no tweeters.. I went with components up front and kicker 6.5" midbass woofers in the rear. Now I have a stock 10" sentra sub that hopefully isn't blown and will provide more bass. I'll come up with some choices for the fronts and amps. Good 4ch amp will run you $300-$500 for 100rms+ per channel...

how big are the speakers stock? U said 6.5 in the rear? is it the same for the front?, is there a performance difference if they are smaller or bigger?( then I would have to get baffles to mount the smaller ones and cut a larger hole for the larger ones), correct? SHould I just search for 6.5s to keep it simple?

as far as i know all the speakers are 6.5 i think you can squeeze in 6x9 with some mods but its pointless.

baffles? like the ones at crutchfield are garbage, they make the base all mushy or whatever. if you have bose, 6.5" will work as you can use the stock bose standoffs....

baffles/ standoffs/ brackets... isnt it all the same shit?

Goldtooth

I dunno, i was just searchign google for various audio terms and it brought me to crutchfield-advisor. so then I just searched on crutchfield. Why, is crutchfield not good? I thought it was a good place for electronics, but ur tone tells me otherwise....hehe
where IS a good place to buy from? so I can scrounge around and see whats goin on

the only expensive speakers that i would buy are infinity, IMO, nothing sounds better, but i i'm gona buy lanzars and see how long they'll last and how sound quality is.

Infinity speakers suck. I had 2 sets in my Maxima, I'm kinda glad my car got broken into in May- because the tweeters where starting to go again, and my RF woofer was partially blown.

Boston makes great speakers, but don't expect to get crazy bass out of them. When designing a system you NEED to think bout what kinda music you will listen to and how much BASS do you really need. Unless you listen to lots of rap or something bass heavy... 10" sealed sub with a 300W RMS amp will sound great.

I would recomend looking for old Rockford Fosgate amps on Ebay- something pre 2004 will be good, or older Alpine V12 amps. They will last 4 ever and produce more power than they are actually rated at....

My speakers of choice are Bostons. Anyone whos heard them in my car will tell you- they sound clear, tight and the bass produced by my 12" Eclipse titanium can set off car alarms with no problem.

Budget, type of music, brand are the most important things in determining the type of system you need/want.

12" Eclipse titanium , hell yea, my friend has two of those babies, and they are fucking sweet

um, I like to listen to the many thousands versions there are of techno/ trance(sub-categories - euro, house, hardstyle....etc), and rap.

my friend told me to look into some CDT components, what do you guys think? http://www.cdtaudio.com/car_audio.htm

from previous experiences and reviews from friends i would have to say that fostgate is a piece of shit... if you want a good amp that is around the price range of fostgate and 100x better go with hifonics. for speakers if you wanna get fancy go with the jl audio or mb quart.

RF is questionable... my amp blew around 3 weeks after install and needed to be sent out to get fixed... ever since then, it has been working fine cuz i installed it and not BB... (i was 16 or 17 when i bought the system, didn't know better and BB was my only option if i don't include overpriced sound advantage)... anyways, moral of the story is... i dunno...

DasTeknoViking

I didn't say BUY NEW RF stuff.... I said look on Ebay for OLDER RF stuff. You will be hard pressed to find a good amp for less than 400 bux NEW. Most of the stuff is made in China by 10 year old kids, and half of it is bad right out of the box.

DO NOT buy refurbished items off Ebay eighter, I have had bad luck with it. SEALED NEW is the only way to buy.

Hifonics is like buying DUAL from Best Buy.

MB Quart used to be good, but they went bankrupt few years ago and now they are owned by a ghey company...... I used to have MB Quart PRO series in my 93 SE-R some years ago.

JL Audio quality has been slipping in quality just as much as all the other USED TO BE GOOD- brands. Thanks to china soon car audio market will be filled with disposable garbage stereo components, leaving the average enthusiast with NO affordable good equipment.

ok heres the deal.... u dont have to spend a shit load of money for ur shit to sound good..u have to be smart with what u buy.... come listen to my car and see what u think..im sure u wont be dissapointed...

i have rf stuff and infinity and pioneer ..i have absolutely no problems with it... knock on wood.... as long as its all tunned and installed correctly anything will sound decent....

ok, guys, Im quite possibly within time going to get either of these eventually.

ECLIPSE SW9122 12"
or
JL 12W7 12"

Is it effective enough to just get one sub, or would you get two? Are the differences in running 1 or 2 subs that great?

f550maranello2
12-12-2006, 12:13 AM
in the max get 2.... the cars cabin is fucked because the back seats dont go down so most energy is wasted in the trunk...

Goldtooth
12-12-2006, 12:19 AM
which of those two choices would u go with? is there a better one? those square kickers look gay, IMO.

Ovaltine Jenkins
12-12-2006, 12:20 AM
just so you know, JL stuff only has warranty if you get it installed at a certified dealer/installer...

f550maranello2
12-12-2006, 12:21 AM
most stuff is like that though.... thats why its almost always better to get it from a store since you can always return it and also get a 4 year warranty

Goldtooth
12-12-2006, 12:45 AM
iight, now what will be a GOOD amp to run a single 12W7? what about two of them? would u put them in ported or sealed applications?

All I could say is that your ears will tell you want sounds good and what doesn't. One speaker can sound like a concert to one, but to another it may sound like sh*t. Its all to personal preference. So far Pioneer, Infinity, Alpine, and Kenwood has been good to me. JBL and Bazooka is on my "no no" list.

Mr Grey
12-13-2006, 02:05 PM
I'll vouch for Alpine.....so far so good. Can't complain...these speakers are very highly tuned for acoustics. When we installed the components, and coaxils in my car I started eharing parts of the songs I never heard before. This was all music I have heard over many times.
