co-worker on mines has a 91-94ish grand am GT coupe with a V6 in it. not sure 3.1 or 3.3. auto stock with leaking intake manifold gasket.

my 98 gle stock auto. good running shape. i figured i weight a little more then him but have a little more power.

So we play around after work every now and then. just taking off at lights getting up to 60 and cutting out after. speed limit on the road we go at are 55 so yea.

We go at it every chance we get and he either ends up taking me by 1 car or we end up even. I never came up on top. I figured if we went to 100mph i should out over the top. But i was just wondering if i should be able to take him or is this prefectly normal ? probaly running 0-60 times. if we go on the highway i think i'll take him without trouble. just wondering whats up.

Turtle - it's called torque
he makes more than you, so he can have a better launch. he probably has a 3.3 in there which made nice torque, but lousy HP.

You obviously don't know shit bout performance. Early 90s SHO will tear you a new ass hole. Early 90s Cutlass Suppreme 3.4 DOHC 5spd will tear you up a new one also.... Dodge Spirit R/T yeah.....

first off what mike has you there.

and for you to tell me that my car isn't running right is beyond dumb. i might not be a maintence freak like mike over there busting down all the front end seals of a beater but there is nothing wrong with my car, only problem is its a fully loaded auto and its stock.

I'm just wanting to see how 2 V6's in nearly the same year made faired up. leaving work at 11pm on the streets of michigan you will be lucky to see 3 other cars on the same road as you. this is completely diffrent from racing at woodfield down higgins or w/e. plus like i said i only got up to 60-65 in a 55.

for me and the grand am its just something to do to make our drive home a little better and to keep me awake. working 10+ hours on Volkswagens is like sucide with their pointless overengineering.

Only the R/T where fast.

2.5L Turbo SOHC motor making 224HP, by now most of those cars are probably pushing close to 400HP. Old Chrysler 2.2L and 2.5L Turbo motors where the easiest thing in the world to get power out of. They came in pretty much everything back in the 80s, one of the best American powerplants if not their best 4 cylinder to date.

Those Grand Am's with a 3.1L V6 are pos's my first car was a 91 Cavalier Z24 with those 3.1 engine, 140hp and 180lbs of torque. Almost same car but different platforms, Grand Ams where the N body I belive and the Cavaliers and Sunbirds, not Sunfires at the time, they were J bodies. They were good for a high 15.9 on a good day but they averaged at around 16.5 in the quarter. I had to many problems with that car, it was a money pit. I was glad it was totalled but sadened that I had no car at the time.

Well side bar, I had a 99 Grand Am GT 3.4 HO auto, it was an alright car. I now have a 04 Sentra SE-R auto. My Sentra smokes the shit outta that thing. I'd be surprised if the Maxima didn't but anything is possible. I guess I put the Max on a pedistal cuz I saw an 04-05 stock Maxima smoke a 94 Mustang 5.0 that had work done. Granted different motor but still impressive.

So umm, almost 3 years later and I never noticed this thread... peter I dont see how this grand am was able to stick with you and even put a car length on you at certain times...

I've actually went up against that same generation grand am v6 with my 3rd gen back when it was running on all 6 cylinders (lol yes its on 4 right now) and I was able to keep up with it.

Now going back to 2005, when I first got my white max, I raced jaber in his 2.8 beretta gt and he put like 3 fuckin carlengths on me and that bothered the shit outta me..figured out the problem months after the race, my fuckin timing was set to 10 degrees lol
