Let me get some picture of your HU installed, i've looked around for pictures but i haven't found anything to my likings. I'm interested in the what you did with the extra DIN space under it. I got one from crutchfield and i figured i would call it good but it stinks. The trim piece over it doesn't go in due to my dash trim. Plus the plastic is like concaved/convex so there is a really nasty gap there.

Looking to either get another type of pocket or the OEM nissan fold down style one. But i cant locate detailed pictures off cardomain and junk

your using the crutchfield one... with that trim did you slide it back a little?

cause the mounting holes for that lines up to a point where trim for the pocket pushes against the dash trim and looked gay. Do you remember if there was that gay ass gap if you didn't have the trim around it?

I'm trying to get mines flush mounted nicely. So my HU doesn't stick out at all .

I'm an auto too =P

Panasonic FTMFW 80 Watts. Tell ya what it sounds good, and I am not bout to change it.

I got iPOD hooked up to it, and XM Sat radio.

I been thinking of putting a sub in the trunk since I got one laying around my house, but I don't wanna be running cables all around the trunk.

i was gonna say when i picked up my RD i saw SAT radio on the windsheild or something.

I'm probaly getting that fold down pocket that you guys have, Paul price on that ? or is it just get it from the org it will be cheaper type things? Since i have the GLE i have the push out pocket as my last one. I wasn't sure if it looks out of place at a higher spot. Picture please =P

Got no pics, and the car is gone now anyhow.
was never able to use the trim around the face on any of the radios.
on the altima we trimed the trim to fit the radio trim (it wasn't removable)

yea i was about to bust out my angle die grinder and do it to the smallest trim but lack of air compressor stoped me. But since i dont drive my max i left everything all apart right now.

Alpine is releasing a new Navi/GPS setup with a portable GPS that Docks into the HU. Looks cool to me.
I'll wait til they get it in and then play with it. They just became Alpine distributors so it'll be fun for me :D

Yeah its the IVA-W203 I belive..... its got the better BlueTooth and allows for "swallowing" of the newer version of the BlackBird Nav system- kinda like inserting a VHS tape into a VCR.

It really has nothing over the old W200 other than the better BlueTooth phone setup- which I also have on my W200 and it leaves ALOT to be desiered.

I am not upgrading 2K dollars worth of head unit + add ons so the head unit displays caller ID and other lil stuff. If I need to see whos calln I can just look at the phone- save me selling my old stuff to buy the new stuff.

BTW Navteq traffic blows azz chunks, I have 90 days free trial till end begining of April and I won't be renewing it. I tried using it in FL and in Chicago and it didn't help me....

Don't know if that was the model he was talking about (I only stopped in for a minute) but he was quotting a price of around $1700.
actually to me the caller ID is the only part I'd really care about with blue tooth.
At this moment I don't even have bluetooth, though I should by the end of the week.

and Since I'm driving a pimpillac now, I got have the latest bling ya know.

1. I just know that's what they quoted a guy off the street as pricing hasn't been established yet, that may also have been an installed price
2. I rarely buy anything online, I like being able to handle it in person and then walk out with it.
3. who knows what MY price would be on it. I get a discount on some things there, I've known them since they opened.

those with the fold down pocket. when you close it does it make a loud noise. I think the spring has a awful lot of tention on it causing it to close really hard and fast. i've been bending the spring and it seems like there isn't anything i can adjust. Just wanted to know if this was normal.

^ i've done that =P it was one of my methods but i see it shortly being worn out. I used some stuff that VW recommended for their dash rattles and sqeaks. As long as its normal, i was thinking the spring was tweaked during shipping or because the spring shows a little rust it was stronger and firmer then normal. Good stuff to know. Will install my new alpine when they release the CDA-9883

I noticed something with mine when me and dave installed my HU. If you loosen up the two screws that are holding it to the whole bracket thing, just a little bit, it relieves SO much of the pressure and makes it open and close much smoother.

eh.. there are 4 screws going to the bracket to the pocket. and 1 screw holding the spring in... ? unless you speak of the bottom bottom pocket that i haven't touched cause i have the push out type pocket

Alpine makes one of the best if NOT the best head units.

I've had Pioneers, Kenwoods, Sonys, JVCs..... nothing ever will outlast a Alpine (as long as its not one of em cheapest models they make, those are not even made by Alpine).

I've been into car audio since I was 14 years old..... I used to put systems into my moms car, my dads van. I know what works and what doesn't.

Pioneer used to make some killer home audio stuff, now half of their stuff is so so and rest is good. Alpine on the other hand is excelent. I never had a problem with their unit- as long as it was purchased NEW and not refurbished on Ebay or what not. There is a reason why people sell stuff for cheap on Ebay..... its eighter stolen, or its grade B or refurbished stuff.

I will stick to Alpine. I have bout 4K dollars into car audio in my car, and I didn't just buy the most expenssive shit they have, I bought the shit that works, is reliable and most of all sounds good.

I've had 2 alpine HUs (1 in my original VE and 1 now in my sister-in-laws Altima) they are both older than most of the cars on here. They both work beautifully still.

alpine used to make good stuff.. iv had their top of the line shit.. when i worked at best buy.. and it sounded terrible... iv been doing installs and such for at least 6 years and time and time again alpine fails to impress me... iv also had $600 eclipse decks and they are crap as well as far as sound quality... i dont care what the brand is as long as it sounds good.. thats why i have tryed many different decks and such and i always keep coming back to my pioneer deh 8600...

Best Buy doesn't sell anything good that Alpine makes. Most people who walk into Best Buy just want the cheap generic shit that will play :

- CDs.
- MP3s.
- has iPOD hook up.

Best Buy doesn't carry the higher end slide out screens and such.

My woman has a Pioneer radio in her Legend- it came with the car. If it was MY car and I drove it on daily basis I would have yanked that shit out of there faster than you can say GONE. That CD player was less than 1 year old when I got the car for her, and its spit out CDs on me, or not ejected them.

My IVA W200 will play any media you stick in it, save for tapes, records and 8 track cartridges.

Eclipse makes great subwoofers, they headunits are really stupid.

ESN security ? What a great idea.

SOOOOOOO we going to code this head unit and it will need a special CD to get it to un-code. But the face doesn't detach, so when you park your car in a shady 'hood your shit will get ganked so fast you won't even see it coming.

Most thieves dunno wtf they are stealing- they will rip your car apart into pieces just to steal that radio. So what they can't make it play without the ESN security CD..... you still have a fucked up dash and no radio in it.

I am a firm believer in detachable face plates.

Ive got a pretty decent alpine HU at the moment. Its nothing crazy but it does what i need it to do. I have nothing to complain about it. Ive also got a couple of blown speakers, and i still think it sounds good. But at the same time, Ive got absolutely no experience when it comes to car audio, so i have no say in whats good and whats not. I think a lot of it is preference. It all depends on the sound YOU are looking for. What might sound awesome to one person, might sound like crap to another. The question than is, what brands products hold up the best without malfunctioning?

Alpine is your safest bet when it comes to reliable products.

Let me put it to ya this way....

EVERYTHING is made in China now, when Khong Va Chu makes your radio, tv, microwave, Xbox, Playstation or whatever else not- he does not give a fuck. He gets paid like 10 cents a hour works 70 hours a week and does not care if you paid 5K dollars for your 50" Pioneer Plasma.

This is why technology is great/bad right now. Sure we can have cheaper stuff, but at the expense of IFFY reliability.

Take older cars, they run 4 ever. Provided you do your maintenance and don't get cheap on the parts or what not.... your late 70-early 90s Benz will outlast ANYTHING there is on the road today- HANDS DOWN. Now take todays Benz, they are technologically advanced like a mofo, but majority of those electronics are made IN CHINA- where people like the above 10 cent a hour employee doesn't give a flying fuck if this part is going into a Nissan, Benz or Cherry- Chinese car.

This is why I love the 80s. There was NO Chinese shit anywhere - and if it was it was a RARE sight to be seen. German cars where known for reliability and their luxury- Japanese where known for cheap dependable reliable cars... domestic just made ugly slow unreliable shit.

If you think todays cars are getting to the point of "disposable" vehicles.... just wait 10 years from now where shit won't last more than 4-5 years before it will hit the junk yard.

I will now return to Craigs List and/or Ebay looking for my next winter beater- which will be a 80s German ride.

sorry super tech, i had to return that pioneer for the alpine. its actually not a bad unit if you can bare with the buttons i didn't like the little tiny station buttons but if your lady has a pioneer in already the move isn't big at all. 3900 is new and cheap at $140 with the aux in, for that ipod of your.

Haven't had a chance to drive with alpine yet to see how it fits my creature comfort position.

--- wood grain flip out pocket, MUST SHOW ME!!!! that black is a little out of place but also is that little gap between the pocket and the radio. double dins look really nice now =P
