I've got a question for anyone who can answer. Can a 3.5 swap be on a 3rd gen maxima? I've got a '91 SE 5spd and I'm trying to get a feel for my options.

yes it can be! have to rewire it to a 4h or 5th gen ecu i believe. Internetautomart should fill up on this one

you need to fabricate mounts, swap over the trans and ECU, probably even the gauges, also axles will need to be modified to fit.
it can be done.
and it would become the ultimate maxima.
if you plan on doing it get a complete donor from the gauges forward.

how is it worth it? arnt the 4th gens lighter than the 3rd gens? making a 4th gen w/ 3.5 swap the best choice?

3rd gen has IRS, nuff said.

3rd gen (92 SE)weight = 3129
3rd gen (91 SE)weight = 3029
4th gen (95 SE)weight = 3001

most of the weight difference is from the motor which is being swapped out anyhow.

The 3rd gen has the IRS which didn't reappear until the 6th gen.
the 3rd gen also has better looks :o
oh, and the 3rd gen has been deemed a classic by hemmings :doublethum

sorry but a 3rd gen is an ugly POS. Put nice wheels and a drop on a 4th gen and it looks great. Do that to a 3rd gen and it still looks like shit.

well, I'll take my "POS" 3rd gen over a 4th any day. Better interior quality, better suspension, and to alot of people better looks.

How many 3rd gens are there in this club? I see plenty driving around, but most mostly theat's all they do. I've had this one for 2 yreas or so but didn't do much with it untill I drowned the 95 pgt I was working on. That'e when I discovered this car had more power than the probe, great handling and i could still use it to cart my son around. I've been tweeking it here and there ever since.

By the way, where's the best place to find performance parts for this thing?
