Just bought a JL 13w7 and it gunna be powered by a JL 1000/1 amp. I'm gunna go with a ported box. For now, I'm just gunna add it to the stock Bose Headunit and speakers. How much percent less of output would I be getting from the sub, as compared to having a REAL headunit? and will the alternator be able to power this setup without dimming stuff? Im gunna do the Big 3, if that helps.... let me what you guys think.

that sub is totally unnecesasry and insanely powerful.....ive been in a car with one and it was just wayyy too much for me

umm how low the sub will be is not depended on your headunit's power output. Usually when you install a sub you run it from the hu's output preouts. just the signal and then the amp is what gives the power. For the bose...each speaker got it's own amp so the hu don't give power to the speakers. plus aftermarket will sound better then stock every time.

So where did you get these from ? Both of those will run ya about 1700 bux if you purchase em new from Tweeter. Unless ya got em for dirt cheap, I call BS on this.

but i meant, like the processing stuff on the Bose as compared to an aftermarket.... my friend told me that the aftermarket has the low-pass filter set lower than like stock, thats what im asking/ talking about, if you can understand what im trying to describe

^ Those high pass/low pass filters should be on the after market amp.

I know...... how much would performance be decreased using the stock headunit as compared to an aftermarket, in terms of the low-level(for the sub)

why the hell are would you be using the stock bose to tun all this stuff?

No... Bose has active equalization.. meaning that it will cut the lows and highs to prevent distortion...

second of all does the amp have high level inputs? if not they ur gonna need a line output converter... and yea its gonna sound terrible.. whats gonna happen is that at low levels its gonna seem like it sounds good but as soon as u turn it up the input gets overdriven and will sound like garbage... get rid of the bose..

450 for the sub and amp ? Or 450 each ? I bought some used JL W6s back when W6s where "the shit" well they came pre-blown for me.

JLs stuff used to be very good, lately its just so so but their W7s are good.

I run bout 1200W RMS power in my car, and have alot of electronic gizzmos. No problem on the stock alternator. Mine is still original at 171K miles, same goes for the starter. I know my alternator will go soon so I got a spare just in case.

f550maranello2
03-08-2007, 09:08 PM
yea but your not running that all the time.. at normal volumes ur maybe running 200 maybe...

Goldtooth
03-08-2007, 09:29 PM
iight, so i shouldnt expect to buy like a farad cap? why is a red top recommended as compared to like a normal car battery? even when the car is running, cuz then isnt it getting power from the alternator as far as im concerned?

DasTeknoViking
03-08-2007, 10:31 PM
I aint runing 1200W RMS all the time, but I bet there are times where I went up to over 800W if not more. Sure I don't always listen to insanely loud music. Its just nice to know if I wanna blow out my ear drums- I can.

I have no cap in my car. Never felt like I needed it, lights barely dim.

I don't think its necessary to do all that. I have a grounding kit on my car and that helped out quite a bit.

f550maranello2
03-09-2007, 10:11 PM
it depends.. i noticed a huge improvement when i did that.. i mean u can hurt anyting my doing it.. i did u cuz my car is 10 years old and the grounds and such are getting corroded..

yo Sebastian, i dont remember last time you showed me ur setup, but dont u have a farad cap? no right?

Ovaltine Jenkins

20 farad??? Isn't it .5 farad per 1000rms?

f550maranello2
03-10-2007, 01:36 PM
no.. its not.. honestly it WILL NOT make a difference when u put in a cap that is that small...

On the topic of bass, and a $300 budget. How would a MTX Thunder 8000 12' T8124

http://www.mtxaudio.com/caraudio/archive/2001Thunder8000Sub.cfm

$70shiped

Profile California 2400 AMP for 65$ shipped all i know its a 2 channel 400watt bridgable amp

figure i would get a ebay box for $50 and $50 wiring kit call it good. would that seem decent entry level audio for $300. I'm not going for KING KONG in the trunk just something decent that i can do easily with my lack of audio knowledge.

Goldtooth
03-23-2007, 06:40 PM
im still waiting on the amp, the box i barely managed to fit in there, and theres no way its coming out the way its positioned..... unless someone hacks away at it.

anyway, my friend told me to be careful with subs, cuz he said he thinks he heard that the 5-0 can impound your car for if you go ape-shit on the volume? discuss

i think a simple ticket for noise polution is as far as they can go. Maybe that will give them an excuse to look over your car.

they use "excesive noise" on the ticket...

approx. how much is the ticket for "excessive noise" ?

IIDMOII
03-24-2007, 06:50 AM
if the cop wants to be a jag he can impound your car, but most of the time they will slap you with a ticket. I think its somewhere around 50 bucks, as long as your not bumping you music while sitting next to a cop you should have a real hard time getting pulled over.

i think the law states if you can hear it from like 10 feet away from the car or something then its ticket-able. I don't remember all too much, i was cleaning my car one day and turned up the music in my alley cause the vac was on. cops rolled by and tried to hassle me about the audio... :banghead: I just wanted to pull my car in the garage and close the door in their faces.

I got a ticket 5 years ago on May 3rd parade in Chicago...... cops said they heard my a block away.

3 JL W6 10" in the trunk with a huge old school Orion HCCA amp.

I tend to keep my volume down. I dont like pulling over for cops eighter, I better be doing something wrong or I will NOT pull over.
