Wow....5 days of Maxus. If Byron is going to be in the late afternoon and evening, I'd be more than happy to run a 'detail clinic' during the day. Anybody want to help?....cough....cough....Hector.....Prinz......
I'm going to wait a couple days before making my hotel reservations to see if we have Autobahn for sure or not.
Byron is going to be during the day unfortunantly, they are open from 10am to sunset. But maybe we could get a detail clinic during the day of the meet and greet, or before the BBQ on Sunday.
I just called Craig at Private Track times, and he still hasn't answered his phone or called me back, I hope he does soon because I'm starting to lose my mind.

i've never done a dyno before. if we went to dyno day, would we be able to tune if we had an AFC installed?

I never did either, probably, but more than likely its going to cost extra to tune with the AFC installed.

Or how about Monday for the detail stuff? People may not get in till later Friday and I'm figuring Sunday would be a pretty full day. Monday might be a better choice, could be scheduled around the dyno time slot? Although it would be nice to have the detail before the show....
Very true, detail and dyno would not be bad.

I'll offer my detailing services for this.
I've been certified twice by Meguiar's (automotive and marine), and received top detailing honors by Mike Phillips and Barry Meguiar.
Me thinks there's a LOT more money to be had detailing cars and yachts, than working in a 130 degree kitchen, for 14 hours a day, 6 days a week, for peanuts. I used to charge $12-14 per foot when I had my yacht detailing business in Jacksonville, FL, back in '05. Factor in my average boat was 50-60 feet... and you see how quickly the money adds up. :D 3 days work for almost a grand? Sure.
My fair warning for pricing, though... it will probably take longer than most detailers, it will be more expensive, but it is, without a doubt, THE BEST detailing that the car can receive. I charge 125 for a full detail, inside and out, and it takes almost a full day.

We could tag-team the cars, and split the money 50/50. We could probably knock out 2-3 cars a day.

I'm already doing that with the lil bro on weekends......I still awant to perfect a technique to be more efficient. Either way, if I get busy enough i may call on you and all together we can knock out like 5 cars. i still need to see how 'business' si going to be this summer. i plan to dedicate most of my weekends to this.

Ok I finally got the call from Craig at Private Tracktimes this morning. (woohoo!!) Here is the info and requirements that he gave me in regards to renting it out. I would of posted it earlier today but for some odd reason at work CMC wasn't working at the time dunno why.
$5000 + insurance to rent out the North Course
$6000 + insurance to rent out the South Course which is bigger
25% of the rental fee is needed as a deposit to rent either course. The rest will be needed on the day of the event. So with the math done. Here are the figures of the deposit needed.
$1250 for the North Course
1500 for the South Course
This may seem a lot but if you figure in how many cars will be participating. I prefer to have the south course since it is bigger and I figure we will have more fun as well.
So in this case if we get lets say 100 cars running, it will be appoximately $60 per car. Which is cheap considering what you are getting.
So there will be a meeting this coming Sunday the first of April in regards to the track on Maxus. So you guys better make it.
DasTeknoViking
03-27-2007, 10:16 PM
I know the south course would be more fun.... but lets be more realistic bout the $$$. And make it the north course for now.
We need to start acting fast. We got lil over 2 months left and we need to come up with some big $$$ to make this all happen.
We should make a thread on the .org and have everyone who is coming PAYPAL or send in the $$$ for the track event. I think 120 bux per person would cover the track and dyno day..... what do you say ?
100 Maximas is a bit of a stretch, althou we probably have easy 25 members here doing it.... 75 more is bit of a stretch.
But I am not sure..........
Remember this event will be open to other cars. I have one local forum that is interested and the other two I still have to notify. So getting even 60 cars should not be hard.
DasTeknoViking
03-27-2007, 10:58 PM
I think 120 per car with dyno day and picnic food would be good.... if we get 100 people/cars thats 12,000 dollars.
Which will cover the TRACK, the food, and the dyno day.
Remember the dyno day will not be cheap eighter. Not many will dyno, and if they do- 100 cars in 1 day is not going to happen.
I would say 80 bux for track + picnic.
120 for track+picnic+dyno.
Even if 50 cars wanna dyno thats still 2000 bux for the dyno operator.
You want the dyno operator to make some $$ on this also. Dynos cost alot of $$$ and runing them all day long also cost alot of $$$ to operate.
Dyno fee will be paid directly to the shop that is willing to sponsor the dyno event. I know you are going to hate me for this Mike, but it might be AMS since I know the sales rep, Eric, there pretty well. And not only that they have a AWD dyno so if Jason want to dyno he can. If not Sound Performance but they only have a 2wd dyno. Those are the only two shops I know that has a dyno that are within a 15 mile radius of the hotel, and least amount of turns needed to take, which means less likelyness of getting lost.
We will discuss payment info at the meeting. So Mike please write down the info you just posted and bring it up at the meeting and we can disuss it there.

Hey guys,
OK if I get involved here? I'd comment on a few things - I've been through a couple of Maxus events in the past, and have organized similar events myself. Obviously I don't know the local scene in Chicago, but I can offer some advice.
I really like the variety of activities you're talking about, and using a single hotel site to sort of "headerquarter" the event. That will work the best, even if you have more Chicago participants than people coming from out of town. Otherwise, there's no "center" or convenient organizing point to the event and it gets way too loose. Better yet if you can use some of the meeting rooms. That's the way Maxus 99 was set up in Dallas, and I still think that was by far the best Maxima event ever held (but since I haven't attended every one, that's just my experience).
All-inclusive events like Dinners, etc. that put everyone in one room will really increase the level of "community" that is so critical to a positive experience at an event like this (good to do something like that on the front end). That's how people really get to know each other, and that's the key to having a great time.
The detailing workshop idea sound fantastic - giving some substance to the program would be a big improvement over previous Maxus events. Other topics might be worthwhile too.
Be real cautious about planning events that require big lump sums of money. I have never seen a Maxima event that attracted a large number of actual track, drag strip or dyno run participants (or at least not nearly as many as expected). The majority of the Maxus attendees are more likely to watch than participate - this is a predictable pattern. Turnouts for racing and dynor runs have always been a disappointment. Typically the idea starts out as a Maxima track day (but not enough people), then they decide to invite anybody with a car (still not enough people), then they try to find another car club to partner with (usually involving cars that will slap the shit out of Maximas on a track), and then when that doesn't pan out, they cancel on the eve of the event. Again, my point isn't to be discouraging, just trying to inject a historically-based note of realism. If you could make a track event work, it would be fantastic, but if it requires 75-100 cars it would be a miracle.
The idea of a several day event sounds great, but make sure its practical. Your best #s will obviously be on the weekend but participation after that will fall off radically. I think it would be neat if you could do something over 3 days, but 4 or 5 will be a real stretch. If it was 3 days, you'll be better off beginning on a Friday (or even kicking it off on a Thursday night) than carrying over to a Monday (there will be more participants on Friday than Monday).
Anyway, just some ideas. You guys know that you can count on us to help with sponsorship, right? Not tons of money, but we'll definitely help. I'm also planning (at least right now) to attend.

Regarding dyno events, I'll also mention that you want to use a roller-type dyno machine rather than the hydraulic type that bolts to the wheel hubs. Not because one is necessarily better than the other, but because its relatively quick to strap a car down and take it off a roller-type dyno so they work best for doing a group of cars. The dyno that bolts to the hubs is really slow (and boring) for a group event.
BCC
Sounds like good suggestions Brian I'll look into that, but it seems like my main concern is that people on that org, will only go if we have a roadcourse event. Problem is coming up with the cash asap to reserve the spot. And no one is at least putting their name up on the headcount list so I could get a better idea if getting a roadcourse in the schedule is really worth it or not. But in a way its to early to say but we are not to far from the actual event. The two dynos that we are looking at are both roller-type dynos. This stuff is starting to stress me out but I'm working hard to make all of this happen.

I'm not trying to discourage organizing some kind of race event at all, just putting some thoughts out there to help scale the event, or save someone from sticking their neck out financially. Unfortunately, I think the likelihood of registering 100 Maximas (or friends of Maximas) for a track day is practically zero.
To some extent you're right about the appeal of including a road course event, but the problem is that its always a minority of the participants that wants to race and the rest enjoy watching - everyone wants it, but only a minority will use (and pay for) it. I am just guessing, but I'd be surprised if more than about 30-40% of the participants would actually register and pay to race.
A lot of people don't want to take their cars on the track - usually due to lack of experience (and sometimes that's a good thing!) and/or that's not really the way their cars are set up. Others might be like me - I never race my car farther away from home than I can afford to tow it back.
Do you have local some help? Delegate, delegate, you can't do it all yourself.
How are your sponsorships coming along? Its pretty late in the game, but if you can get a group of sponsors to bankroll half of the track fee and get the track management to go down some too (doesn't sound like they're doing any special favors at all, know anyone with leverage there?) you might be able to pull it off, but one way or another, I think you'll have a hard time raising more than about $2k from individual fees.
What about other action in the Chicago metro area that weekend, any possibility of piggybacking on someone else's race event?

Brian,
We hold a "Maxus" planing meet every month- sometimes even 2 times a month to collect some donation $$$ towards Maxus. Anything helps...and we are all pulling hard for this. We should have NO problem getting 25 people from HERE to go on the track. And at the same time this is not limited to JUST Maximas anymore as we know not many people do road racing.. so our 100 cars might not be something that we can't fill in.... it should be doable.
I have attended some SE-R conventions and I use those are a reference each time we have a Maxus meet.
I know where you coming from about the track.... but if 100 Sentras can go on a track, why not 50-70 Maximas ?
After all this is not a RACE, its going to be FUN HOT LAPPING. You can't put transponders on cars as that would be a big NO NO with the insurance companies for any of the participants. Its called a "driving school".

Sorry if this has been said already, but will the dyno day consist of a dyno+tune or just dyno?

I have yet to make the phone calls or visits for the dyno, but it will more than likely have to be on a Monday. Today I ordered the trophies, there will be 15 trophies given out. I was able to get the figurine on top of some of the trophies to be something close to a Maxima.

There are 2 ways to judge a car show.
Objective - based on specific facts/criteria. Using a point system for evaluating things like interior, exterior, engine bay etc. Only a few people are judging.
Subjective - Everyone is a judge. Each chooses what they like best based on personal opinion/taste.
Both have good and bad points.
