my gf is on her 2nd soon to be 3rd ipod. she bought it last week... i blame software but i know nothing of ipod and itunes and all the other junk. so i turn to you guys.
she used this "ephpod" program because she bitched about not being able to sync and download her songs. she had the computer with my laptop and download all 900 some odd songs of mines. she went home and wanted to transfer songs and it should be common sense and simple. then she bitches about something erasing whole drive cause its paired with my laptop and not hers. all this sounds funny to me cause this would be something i would think Mr.Gates and Zune would do to create a monopoly and not apple. Is she on crack? or is she right ?
But to this ephpod, she used it the first night and then after using it the pod crashed. She bought it back into bestbuy and they said the harddrive is crap. Got new one today she did the same thing. sync to my laptop cause she wants my songs and takes it home 3 hours later she calls sayings its F-ed up again. I think its the freaking program.
So can someone educate me on ipods? Its a 5th gen 30gb white video ipod. should be recent firmware since brand new from bestbuy. What programs are you guys using other then itunes? If this sync and transfering songs is a issue how do i correct it? :banghead: i dont think it should be that hard since every other whore has an ipod it should be bug free.

I use iTunes to put music onto my ipod and I use podutil to take music off the ipod. I haven't had a problem uploading songs from other computers using itunes...and haven't had a problem with podutil to take songs of other ipods either. These ipods can be tricky...not exactly sure what the problem is, but you do have to be careful with what progams you use with it. If it asks you if you want to update your ipod...make sure it's not going to wipe it clean. Just gotta make sure you click and don't click on certain options.
I'm sure others will be of more help, but tell her to try a new program.

thanks. i have no idea what my gf's intentions were. And what step she was doing. I'm thinking remove songs from pod to comp. She said when she turns it on it will just reboot itself and have a apple icon. I assume that is a sign of a dead hard-drive and not just a corrupted one that i can reformat.
graciella, do you have the newer 30gb video as well?
i looked up podutil... seems to be $20 to buy. is there any freeware programs that might do the trick?

ok, so there is a trick... your gf has sync on which makes sure that only the music on her computer will be the ipod... automatically, it erases anything that it does not recognize... i don't own an ipod but i heard of a "fix" where you use a folder on the ipod to store the music from a second computer (like a jumpdrive), take the music off the ipod and put it in her computer and let it sync after that...

Enable disk mode and just make a folder in the Ipod. Or select manage songs manually.

No iPOD problems here..... I currently have 3 30gig videos and a older 20gig photo.
I use iTunes with the newest updates. I had some kinda program on my PC that took files from the iPOD and put them on any PC.... it was free, I forget its name thou.

i have a 60gb video, and like rooney said, you need to make it so that it doesnt automatically sync, and she shouldnt have anymore issues

I heard iDump works very well for taking content off your iPod and saving onto a PC. I havent personally tried it but my friend says it works well for his movies when he wants to take them up to his computer at work and watch them on the PC. I'll give it a try later on today see if it works for songs as well.

to take songs off somebody elses computer, i make sure my ipod doesnt automatically sync. then i use the ipod as a regular memory stick--ie go to my computer then click drive e/f or whatever, make a new folder and put all the music from the other person's laptop in that folder. then i put that folder onto my comp and add it to itunes.
to take songs off of somebody else's ipod, i use a program called copypod. it works w/ itunes and adds those songs directly to ur library. PM me w/ ur email if u cant find it online.

If i remember correctly there is a setting in the ipod setting that says something about the main computer that its paired to. But ive done exatly what she did, using the same program. ephpod. And ive had no problems. I bought my ipod a year and a half ago and ive replaced it only once, but that was because i dropped it. Haha, oops.

Like nismo3112 said...make sure to select "manage music manually"...and don't let it sync on its own.
There's plenty of programs out there to get stuff of the ipod onto the computer. I got a free download of podutil off download.com. The only issue I have is a pop up shows up every so often asking you to purchase the program. So if I'm taking a large amount of stuff of my ipod...i get the pop up a few times...and it won't continue downloading until you click later or whatever.
Oh btw...I have the 30gb photo ipod. Never had any issues...never had to replace it.
