I'm gunna be running a JL 13w7 with a JL 1000/1 amp. Everything else is stock. How big of a fuse do I need and where do I mount it? closer to the amp or battery?

a 100 amp fuse should be fine although a bigger fuse never hurts
I'm running a Hifonics 2000D (2000 watts rms) and I've got a 300 amp fuse that handles it fine.
Like i said.. Bigger = better.

well, let me tell you something
since i have my stock HU, my friend hooked up his MP3 player directly to the amp, and we were rocking it. guess what the 100amp fuse blew at max....

okay then how about
Use the gauge of wire your amp requires..
#8 - fuse at 100A
#4 - fuse at 150A
#2 - fuse at 200A
1/0 - fuse at 300A

amperage is related to voltage/wattage
wattage used by the amp not wattage that it allegedly puts out.

I have a 4 guage wire going to my amp and I have a JL 13w7 and a 1000/1 amp. How do I calculate what size fuse I need to not blow it at max, and at the same time not being way more than necessary.

Hmmmmm, it says to use a 100 amp ANL style fuse, but what about the MAXI style 100 amp fuse that I have instead? would it make any difference?

you need a fuse the same size that the amp has... so if the amps fuse is 25 amps then u need a 25 amp fuse in ur power cable.. also make sure u dont put the fuse more than 18 inches away from the battery....

how do I check what fuse the amp has? and the fuse is like less than a foot away from the battery.

the amp should have a fuse on it... it will say a number like 25 or 40... so u need to get a fuse thats like 5 amps more than that and ull be fine.. look around on the amp

so its gunna be printed lettering somewhere on the amp?

I went to the Sound Advantage on Harlem. The dude over there told me that I'm overdriving the amp, the amp draws only 83 amps.... He told me that the gains are set too high in relation to the PAC unit. He went on telling me that the preout voltage of the PAC unit doesn't correlate to the gains set on the amp. For example, the output voltage of the PAC unit is 4V and the amp is set to 2V. and thats a :nono:
so now I need to find what voltage the PAC unit puts out and accordingly adjust the gain on the amp.
