So like I said I got a hooptie.
1991 Maxima SE A/T w/144K miles.
A/C works, BOSE- doesn't work well but I will fix that.... I got amps etc.
Everything works and there is no rust. Car has new fuel injectors, all new hoses under the hood, everything is OEM. Timing belt has been done 10K miles ago, it has a new trans I done up for it while back.... basically its mint. Interior is black but the flash made it look gray- everything was still drying from the interior detail. I'm going to have TY put his magic Zaino to the test on the exterior.

Belt has been done 10K miles ago along with cam and crank seals.
It has OEM Nissan injectors, all new hoses, gaskets etc.
I just had it up to 110MPH without even needing to downshift. VG has tons of low end power. I remember my old 90 SE 5spd would pull like crazy- its peak TQ is at only 2800RPM.....
No rear working speakers kinda annoys me, and the tires have like 15K miles on them- Potenzas.... they feel kinda soft on the sidewalls.
4DSC FTW :) This marks it as my 2nd 3rd gen and 3rd Maxima overall :)
I might give this to my old lady.... its waaay too nice for a beater.

Wow, what a great looking car, too bad its not a 5spd but it should do you well. How does it ride compared to newer maximas? Any rattles or is the car rock solid? So you got this on a trade in or what? Keep it clean!

That looks really mint. Nice find.
I also bought a hooptie..
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a309/surfhawaii99/IMG_0097.jpg
Need to get the front speakers working, hook up an o2 sensor, re-tape the engine harness, get 2 missing tranny bolts, get stock intake, re-wire the driver headlight, re-wire oil psi sending unit, uninstall coilovers, get matching lugnuts, get new ks, check for other codes, exterior/interior/engine bay detail, install new pass. fog, paint the grille, de-paint the 2 driver side rims, return interior pieces back to black, install moonroof visor, fix moonroof cover, and bang out driver fender.
Shit.
I'm sure there's more.

Woman is really attached to the Legend, that car has done us very good in the last 2 years we've had it. I rebuild the motor from head gaskets up when the head gaskets blew on the previous owner.... only reason I wanna get rid of it is the rust.
Both cars will hit 300K miles without a problem.
Maxima rides kinda "sloppy" but it feels like its more tires than anything else- and thats only at higher speeds. I might throw on some Tokico Blues on it with some ProKits and the Aussie bushing kit to make it tighter. Friend of mine has a set of 5.5 gen wheels for sale. Overall its quiet, no rattles anywhere. My 90 SE 5spd had 320K miles on the original VG when I sold it. I'm a big VG30 fan, they are simply indestructible engines. Old school as hell, but simple, powerfull and most of all reliable and dime a dozen.
I have to get the car over to Cesar for a tint job maybe next week or whenever the weather gets nice- thats the 1st mod.

DasTeknoViking
04-14-2007, 12:59 PM
Most likely my woman is going to drive it. I'm going to sell the Legend - very hard to part with that car.
Tinted windows,
New OEM exhaust system.
JWT POP intake,
Tokicos/ProKit + new bushings.
5/5.5 gen 17" wheels.
Fix the BOSE system.

read a couple of books on suspension before you start with it.
I've been reading up on suspaension lately, very interesting info I'm getting.
some of it is very contradictory to common thought.
DasTeknoViking

Its a M30 coupe- not convertible.
Well I know the bushings are all worn out.... and since I am going with 17" 5/5.5 gen wheels on it.... dropping it mildly on ProKits should make it look and ride much better. I am almost positive those Potenza RE92s are whats causing the suspension to feel "sloppy".
I dunno exacly what I am going to do yet.... woman has to make up her mind as to what she wants to do.

So.... long trip in the 3rd gen last night. 352 miles- 11 gallons of gasolina. Average speed about 85MPH, with bursts up to 100MPH. Crazy drivers out here on I-69 - mostly doing 90-95MPH whole 100 miles.
I got lil over 1/4 tank still left.... not bad for a 16 year old car. Old cars = Da shizzznit !
Oh and I got a nice tan on my dome, I had the sunroof open 90% of the trip. I wish my 5th gen had one.

Hey Mike, nice find on that 3rd gen. Pretty damn clean! Wish mine was as clean but I've spent too much getting it to run nice to not fix up the body so hope I can get it to look like that this summer.
How much did that one run you?
btw keep in mind I have a friend that has pretty much almost every maxima generation Bose headunit in stock for sale 2000 and below IIRc

better then my 4th gen when i was making those trips from the D to right before the toll bridge i would be down 11 gal at like 280-300miles. same type of speeds actually almost exactly.

I like the power it has....it's lots of fun. the steering seems to be a tad flimsy. Like you stated before, i might switch to some wider rims and tires to fix some of it. I know it's not mint...it wasn't supposed to be. It's a straight out beater for when the 4th gen's put on jack stands.

its cause of the catback exhaust :) lol
DasTeknoViking
04-24-2007, 07:26 PM
4-5th gens don't handle well stock. 3rd gen does handle much better but the whole time it feels like you got something REALLY heavy in the front- its the engine. Its MUUUUCH heavier than the VQ and thats why the car feels so front heavy.
3rd gen with a VQ- now that would be a cool car.
Brian
04-24-2007, 07:55 PM

it's been done a couple of times.
3rd gen with a vq(only cause it's alloy) > all other maximas
DasTeknoViking
04-24-2007, 11:04 PM
VQ>VG>VE. I like all Nissan engines, but I am not a fan of the VE. Those VTC sprockets are stupid and unnecessary. VQ makes same power without em... DE-K makes more power with out em and pulls alot smoother. VG is just a good ole reliable lump that will last a nuclear blast... Not a smooth engine, but damn bullet proof.
Brian
04-25-2007, 08:00 AM
meh, the VE is amazing for what it was.
if it was an all alloy motor it'd be worth another 10-20 horses (aluminum heads)
the VTC issue is really hit or miss, if it was maintained with quality parts, they last no problem. but most people consider changing the oil with whatever is on sale and the $2 filter to be maintenance. it needed a better filter to last.
and nissan used the VTC setup on several motors then. the rebuild kit for them is cheap too BTW.
of course my subi feels faster when it's running right :gotme: my original subi felt that way too though.
Mr Grey
04-25-2007, 08:50 AM
The VTC quieted down quite a bit......it doesn't bother me. I'll say one thing though. I have driven the thing close to 220 miles in 2 days, and I'm surprised how good top end is. I'm on the e-way cruising at 65mph, tap it alil more and then I'm at 85. All of this without hearing the exhaust get louder or anything like that.
Brian
04-25-2007, 01:03 PM
yeah, VEs are viscous on the top end.
that was part of the reason I liked it more than the VQ. Spinning motors are fun :spin:
