What do you gays think ? My turd needs a new exhaust system. I would like to hear the Greddy SP, its SSteel so it will last me few years.

the ricer within emerges again, huh... it's yellow on the inside tips... looks like a pacesetter knock off...

edit: nevermind... i looked at it again... it is pacesetter... no wonder

ahh, Mike, only the tips are SS, the piping is just mild steel. These things are notorious for rusting through within the first couple years. It would sound good cause the piping is only 2.25 and it's a nice looking muffler. I like smaller dual tips...

I know that the "Monza" exhaust system isn't the greatest quality... but I am trying to justify spending 480 bux on a Greddy SP- which is full SS.

I haven't ever heard eighter one on a VG, I recall a coworker had a 92 SE 5spd with a Greddy on it... but that was like over 10 years ago.

I don't want anything loud, I like the dual tip designs the best. Figures Dinos will charge me around 150 if I bring em my mufflers/resonator. When its all said n done I will be at around 350 and it will not be SS- just the mufflers will be.

My Turd still has the factory exhaust system on it, and its getting louder and louder each time I drive it. Not loud enough to change it ASAP... but soon it will be.

I didn't say don't get it, Just saying it isn't SS and that people bitch about it rusting through pretty fast. I say go for it...

I don't wanna sink too much into this car. I also need new struts, springs, some new bushings, rear seat, rear Bose amps.... tint.

I think I will just get the Pace Setter..... It doesn't look like a fart can.

130 ehh.... take a look at it for me and tell me what the bends look like.

Greddy sounds more like the exhaust for me, I hate to put some PS exhaust on my pimp ass 91 Max.... and hate the way it sounds.

get the pacesetter, and coat it with engine high temp when you get it
it will extend the life, usually those catbacks are pretty quiet

I too would go this route. It makes sense if you are not trying to spend to much money on the third. The only way it would make sense is if you are planning on keeping the car for a long time. I know you said you will drive it through the winter, but then how long after that.

Depends.... I am always in a mood for a new (used) car. I'm itching for a 00 740iL in black.

I want to keep the turd for a while still..... I might just get the cheapo exhaust from Brian.

the bends are the fairly normal OE type.
not the crinkle type, not mandrel either, but a smooth bend though.
it's all painted black, and comes as one piece muffler with b-pipe and resonator all welded. Getting it anywhere will be a pain though

I think thats how the OEM comes, 1 piece exhaust if I recall correctly.

Dual tip correct ? I might have to borrow a car from work to haul dat bish home. Turd has no fold down seats, and my black Max has a subwoofer in the way.

I got plenty of TSX tips to put on it. I will take it from ya. I will halla at you when I am ready, it will be sometime mid next week or so. Not in a hurry to replace it yet.

How bout some Tokico's with new dust boots ?

Brian

I got the rears still, fronts I'd have to send you elsewhere.

K, I got the exhaust on- it sounds much quieter.

On the other hand I drove the car out to Detroit, with some traffic etc. 9.6 gallons of gas to 306 miles. Not bad at all, the car is 17 years old and still manages to get 30MPG doing 80MPH.

Monday I will have my new KYB GR2s to install, w00000t. Car will be solid.

I will get a new PS pump and rack from you Brian, hopefully within the next 2 weeks. I got a leak from both of them and I would like to fix that before winter. I don't have any other issues.

New front 02-03 TL-S seats going in there with seat heaters soon !

Brian

you'll need a hose too. they leak way more often. which also means the control arm bushing if you haven't already done so.

DasTeknoViking
09-29-2007, 09:34 PM
High pressure hose is new. And I have a set of 4th gen ES control arm bushings I modified to make work on my 3rd gen.

Pump is pissing really bad, lemme know the price via PM on the pump + rack. 91 SE A/T. Thanks !

those pacemakers and monza are the same exhaust...heard they rust out pretty fast.

I got some other cheap exhaust. Not a Monza/Pacesetter. Eighter way, fitment is terrible. I got it because it was cheap. Not looking for performance with the 3rd gen.

On the way back today I drove about 90-95MPH all the way from Detroit to Chicago, I still got about 27MPG. Not bad for an old clunker :)

Brian
09-30-2007, 08:39 PM
was the fitment really that bad?
I hadn't heard any complaints on that brand before

DasTeknoViking
09-30-2007, 09:10 PM
Yep it was terrible, the exhaust didn't look straight to my eye when it was on the floor at work. Its kinked towards the driver at the cat- 2" too far. I managed to bring it all togheter and bolt it down, bu I got all kinds of hose clamps etc holding the exhaust down. Dunno how long it will last but for now it even sounds a lil "growly" at certain RPMs.

Brian
09-30-2007, 09:29 PM
hmm....
haven't had any other complaints so far.
we'll see how the 4th gen goes then maybe that third gen got tweaked in shipping.

wow, that must be nice.....i got about 24mpg in the highlander. cruizin at about 80-85 the whole way....not a single cop on the highway..........but it was a great trip. im tired as ****, but it was well worth it.

Brian

slow down to 75 and you'll knock down 30.

walec05
10-01-2007, 10:25 AM
i tried that, and the most i ever got out of the toyota was 24.536 mpg....and this was at 72mph, cruising non stop....the only accel was from the gastation, the only decel was stopping at another gas station.....i divided the galons i filled up by miles i drove, and thats all i got.

pretty ****ty if you ask me.......so im looking for a diesle now, they get about the same mileage, but you can use them for more stuff.

I'll have the axles today, the exhaust I'm waiting on it right now.

If you're looking at SS exhausts then call to make sure the INTERNALS are SS as well. I had a Greddy SP2 and the inside perforated tube that gives the muffler its distinctive sound ended up rusting out, because the wrong weld was used. The Inner pipe was just plain steel, and if you've ever welded then you know that welding steel to SS is REALLY hard to do correctly. I guess they realized the problem and the new line is all SS.

On a side note to that, I found out that greddy packs their mufflers with SS shavings that you get from milling parts. If you've ever done CNC work, you know all those little curley things that fly off the metal parts? Well, those go into their mufflers as packing. Talk about using the whole buffalo!!!

In other words, don't buy something that could just fall apart...because you don't want to do exhaust work more than once. I'd just have a shop do a custom bent 2.5" system with aluminized piping, add a catco Hi-flo from ebay, and a nice baffled flowmaster from ebay with some nice tips. You'll be happy, SPEND LESS, and you'll have a system that will last just as long as that POS pacesetter. The bends won't be mandrel, but hell who cares? With the tiny headers our cars have, the exhaust is pretty much restricted from point A.

I put on a cheap aftermarket exhaust on the car... works for me. I'm selling the car anyways.
