View Full Version : How I clean my car

First i go to those quater places. Get a nice wash then dry it off with some cloth. If you're drying your car off in the cold, i advise you do the trunk first because it will freeze. Next I get a clay bar, this should be done once a year, the clay bar will remove any dirt on your paintjob and make the paint extra smooth. You could feel the smoothness afterwards. The claybar does not make your car shine though. After the clay bar I put on about a layer of polish. Let it sit then remove it. After the polish i go over the car twice with a terry cloth. After that i take a bottle of mother's wax, the sythenic stuff it suppose to last longer. Don't use too much at a time. Do one section at a time. After you put it on let it sit for a bit then wipe it off. I do about 2-3 layers of wax. It's much easier if you have someone else there to help you. I ususally do it when b00b. He put on the polish and he waits a bit and wipe it all off. This way i can get 2 cars done in the same time. 2-3 layer of wax should last couple of weeks, i'm guessing. Then if you got the wheels that doesn't have a clear cloat over them, get some metal polish and just work it till it shines, and trust me they shine alright. then i put on some tireshine, i like to use the gel kind they last longer. The only thing about them is they stay sticky for a bit. With the foam kind goes on and shine does not leave a sticky mark.

haha, so.. everytime you "wash" your car you do that entire process? or is that you "detailing" your car?
washing i just use meguires gold car wash stuff with microfiber towels, works wonders.
when i detail w/ hector.. we do a lot..

wash it, clean it (clay bar, paint cleaner, etc) polish it, wax it. The 4 steps to an incredible car finish. I've been using Meguire's "Deep Crystal" 3-step system for a while now, makes for some of the best shine I've ever seen. Maxima is about to finally get steps 2 and 3 tonite (got step 1 Sunday). Being busy with real life sux.

I disengage the keys from the ignition, hand it over to an attendant over at RITZ carwash on Chicago ave. They power wash the car, clean windows in and out, vacumm my carpet and floor mats, dry the car, go over the creases of the exterior with a pressurized air hose so I won't have any drip stains from the exterior mirrors or window/moonroof trim, and dry the car again, clean the dash with their fuzzy magnetic thingy, spray some Black Magic scents inside, splash on some of that gel tire conditioner with a brush, exchange $12.00 for my keys and off I go. It's winter time damnit and I don't feel like being out there in the cold washing my car.

I'll put my car through the touchless wash if it's exceptionally salty and I just can't stand it anymore, but usually I just leave the Max in the garage when the weather is crappy. In 3 years, I took the Maxima through a spinning brush auto-wash once, and I felt so guilty I gave her a full hand-polish the following weekend. Nothing worse than a black car full of swirl marks. I take the GF's white GLE through the $3 gas station wash at will. The Caravan seems to handle it well also. Don't wash it much though.

....those touchless wash are a piece of shit....everything is still there after you fnish the wash. i did it once then i ended up washing my car the right way afterwards

oh yeah, they're total garbage. But I'd much rather just use it as a means to remove excess salt instead of taking my car through a spinning brush wash. The thought scares me.

Man if only that rain dance came with free soap, brushes from the sky and rinse then wax and rinse again with spot free I'd be set...but no its just dirty water that gets the white car dirty all the time
a friend is gonna be doing some bodywork/paint to my car soon and the car should look just like out of the dealer..I wanna start washing/detailing it with Duck and Hector since they know wtf they're doing. Well atleast it seems like hector knows what he's doing.

Come spring I will do all that to my car. I have been refining my process to be done a lil quicker, and get better results. I will start mini meet with no more than 2 cars at a time. That way we give better attention to detail. I know it sounded corny. :(
