Lately my PC has been running louder than normal, sometimes the HIGH speed fans kick on and run for a while. Its REALLY loud when they are on high setting.
Is the PC overheating ? Is my power supply crapping out ? Is there any way to find out my PC temp via some kinda setting in Windows or program of some sort ?
I don't shut it off, its always on. I've had this thing for lil over a year now, refurbished Gateway.
BTW I figured out the Vista problem and how to deal with it.

most of the time if a computer overheats it just shuts down.
there is a temp setting normally in BIOS settings. When you boot up your computer it might ask to hit F2 or F11 to enter BIOS then you can search around for temp. Not all computers have it there. Just dont change a setting or aleast dont save the settings if you mess around with it.
It could just be the bearings in your fans getting worn down. I had a gateway laptop fan bearing whine almost like a wheel bearing when high speed kicks in... since its a 2 speed fan.
I think Vista has the option also to check inside temp, i wouldn't be able to help since i'm non-vista equiped.

open the case and vacuum the guts out.
as others have said it may just be dirt that is clogging up the works and making it run hotter and making the fan complain

I went into the server room @ ITT-Tech, boy it felt like the air in there hasn't moved in 50 years. No wonder our bandwidth sucks.
