IMHO, nissan is changing its market share. Infiniti is taking over the lux market, the M, Q, G, FX, etc, are all big sellers, and cater nicely to their individual markets. Infiniti could not be doing better in my opinion. What nissan has done, is come from a budget teen/young market in teh 90's, because it got them sales. Theyve progressively moved upwards.
The new altima has become the maxima. Period. The SE-R is what the max should/could have been.
The new maxima, is pulling a 4th gen restyle, Change bumpers and trivial interior details mid-generation. It's catering to the people that cant afford to, or prefer not to, buy an Infiniti, but want that kind of car. Removing manual transmission options may have reduced a portion of sales, but it's a smart move. Using new technology on your flagship car.. who knows, it might rekindle the waning fires of maxima love.
The sentra.... i dunno. It has been a teenagers car forever, I know TONS of people with 200's, sentras, G20's, but this one is apparently aimed towards people that cant afford alty's or maximas that want nissan styling (styling?...Wha...?)
Their truck line is actually competing with the Colorado, Ram, etc...
Nissan is rethinking what they want out of the market, but I feel, moving upward. Coupled with the tion by Infiniti, and their other business ventures (sale of heavy truck division, etc), I think Nissan is going to come out as the next toyota. Nobody had a successful hybrid until the prius (honda doesnt count because ive seen 3 in my life.) Maybe Nissan will do the same with the CVT.
Either way, I invested in 45 shares of nissan, and I feel it was a good investment for the long term. (and it pays dividends :) )

Almost identical, as I'm sure the G will be, but i doubt the exhaust tips will be embedded in the bumper llike that... not many can pull it off without rubbing/burning parts.

The 35 looks really nice, The alti's rear end just grew, looks like an huge A$S. THe maxima looks better, especially the grill changes the looks of that car. Besides that the max barely changed just the front, no rear end work from what I see. The altima needs to get some rear end body work done.

the cvt is crap. its the same one being used in the muranos now, and its horrible. it burns out and slips. if you do any hard driving you can fuck it up really easy. ive seen about 5-6 muranos come in for trans problems. pos cvt crap.

yea... i dunno about the rear of the altima either... it grew and driving those scare me enough as it is... like i'm afraid that i'll hit something with it when i back the cars in... since i can only back into a parkign spot (suck at backing out)...i'm used to my mom's small altima... the 98... i think i will always drive a nissan/infiniti tho... i've been driving those for too damn long...

If I where you I would sell those Nissan shares in a heart beat while they are still worth something. Their sales are going to fall down like meteroids pretty soon thanks to that wonderfull 2.5L Altima and Sentra. I'm not being racist in any way here, but ever since Nissan started to import cars made from Mexico- their quality has gone down alot. The new Versa is made in Mexico along with the Sentra. I sometimes have these "change job" mood swings when someone at work pisses me off, and I considered going to Woodfield Nissan again........ but in reality I do not wanna work on cars that have ZERO soul, inspiration or quality. Its not like Acura has soul in their cars, but atleast we do not have big engine problems, subframe recalls and big time brake problems.
Motor Works Infiniti is now moving to Hoffman Estates, its litterally 10 min walking distance from my house...... once the place is finished I might check them out for a job. I know pretty much everything there is to know about the 90-96 Q45s and J30s..... and most people who work at Inifiniti probably never even worked on a 90 Q45.

speaking of the versa and the new sentra, it looks like quality has improved from the earlier model, not to mention that all the versas come with a 1.8L engine and either a 6MT or 5AT transmission. the sentra has improved quality wise a little bit, but is still a cheaply made for the price.
nissan may have their engine problems, subframe recalls, and brake issues, but they are willing to fix the problems unlike other dealers (ford, cevy, mitsu). oh and ive been hearing that the reason all this stuff is going bad is because they switched to a cheaper maker in mexico, and they mass produced everything. the new stuff they put in the cars now, either comes from symerna tenn (subframes, brakes) and the trans comes from japan.

Tranny problem isn't a such a big problem, I mean its there but the rest of the car is PIMP.
I personally would never buy a 'yota because they have this appliance like feel to me, and I think they are HIGHLY overrated POS.
On the other hand, take a Legend for instance..... 91 Legend can still spank auto 4th gens that are MUCH lighter and have same HP almost, and whats even more funny..... (and I have the whole maintenance history on mine from the previous owner) I still have original shocks, original control arms, exhaust, fuel pump, starter, alternator.... only thing it ever needed was upper ball joints, radiator, 1 LR caliper, regular maintenance. I got the car for cheap because the old folks who where the original owners didn't notice the leaking radiator and blew the head gaskets overheating the motor.
I never replaced any knock sensors, 02 sensors or anything on it- and on the highway it still can get bout 25-26MPG.
Old Acuras where really good cars, just like old Nissans where also good cars-not nearly AS reliable as Acuras but still good. My point is- while Acuras still are very reliable cars- Nissan cars are unexciting, very lame looking turds. I wish Nissan luck if they wanna keep any old customers of theirs like me happy. I've bought 4 Nissans at Woodfield Nissan, my next car.... I dunno when but sure as hell won't be any new Nissan.

My 91 accord is a POS. I've had the tranny, halfshafts, hoses, belts, alt, water pump, bearings, exhaust and god knows what else replaced. I think Hondas are the most overrated, although not quite as bad as toyotas in quality. I have never liked a civic and think the accord is way to overpriced and cheaply made. Nissan may not be perfect but I think the blend of reliability, quality, and performance is better than either Honda or Toyota.
