i redlined it in 4th on the highway and then let off. didnt catch the speed, but you guys can guess. nice open roads, i clutched it up a couple times. boy did it feel good.

now rain tomorrow, then im working all day friday, shit, its gonna suck.....

I wear glasses or contacts when I ride, my G/F has shaky hands too and shes alright.

yeah but when they blow you off then you don't care (guy never showed up to pick up my bike today, could care less), but if you tell them to hold it for you cause you are coming to pick it up, then you don't show up and say you are getting it for sure by the weekend, is not cool

its a nice bike. weight loss, more power. and you can get used to that front end.

im gonna do the intake mod on my 600, probably in a couple weeks when my high flow air filter comes in. sounds killer and you get a little bump in power. dont more for throttle responce and awsome sound.

they can't since it's part of the intake. that's also why they sound weird. read the tests and while a badass sound, they said it's the slowest of the liter bikes. still, at least yamaha did something right, the thing has a unique soul to it. prob the bike i would get if i was to go to a liter bike

people are asking to much for them used, and it feels to small/cramped for me, i am to tall for the yamaha

Never gonna go back to an inline 4... they feel gut less on low end. V Twin power for me, I don't need to rev out to 17K RPM to feel motivation under me.

i'm really curious how the R1 rides. wonder if it's lowend is better. triple works for me. it's not a huge difference between it and an I4 after riding paul's but the triple has a lot more power down low.

I haven't riden a 1000cc other than my own, but from 600-750s they all feel the same way.

My V-Twin is down on power compared to the 4s, but it makes killer low end TQ. Which is why I have no problem with 99% of the bikes on the road. To launch a 600 right, you have to be a pro, to lauch a 1000 right you have to be on guard as I seen them things do some wild things (slide out from under ya). My bike, pop the clutch and no bogging down, no waiting for high RPM power.

Ride a V-Twin daily, you will understand why its a great street bike. Lets face it, if you are not going to do track days and will be riding in the city/burbs and MIGHT take a 2nd person along, low end power /end.

Only time I might have issues if we are going past 160MPH, thats when my 20-30WHP deficit from a new 1000 comes in.

Ok, I take it back.... 'Busa and ZX14 make good around town bikes too, because of their monster power.

Bleed out my brakes F/R and clutch.

Then I went out for a ride..... out to Vernon Hills, Mchenry County. Man does jail bait love motorcyclists, I had bishes waving me down @ the lights. I think next time I am going for a longer ride..........

Yeah but you can get that bike for 3K for sure.... and to some that extra 1500-2000 for a newer F4i or 600RR is quite the change. (see the Digital TV thread).

You guys are making it sound like anything but all the newest and greatest shit is the only thing you will ride. I'm sorry, I've ridden with all of you guys.... and none of you track your bikes. so WTF do you need the newest 1000cc bike for if you can't even use all that technology on the street ? Lets face it, a 10 year old Gixxer 1000 will be just as good as a new Gixxer or CBR for 99% of the riders you see on the street. Not many do track days.

You don't need to buy THE best just to show off. Its what I am getting at.

kerosene

That's really not the point if it's more powerfull considering we'll never take advantage of it (like we've talked about yesterday) they are better quality and more resiliant to being beat on... there are many advantages to buying a newer bike ofcourse not forgetting it might last longer if treated properly (although they can all last as long as taken care of)

i like to ride the newer bikes, they handle better, are more nible, and haul like a raped ape
plus no worries about any services, free riding especially when i get a new one every 2 years:)
and you can tell a difference from a model to model, for example, if walec rides the new 600rr, his will feel old and out dated, trust me, and if he rides an f4i his will feel bad ass
again, ride a newer 1000 4 cylinder, redline 2-3-4 gear, you will crap your pants:)

DasTeknoViking
06-15-2009, 08:56 AM
Differences in handling between lets say a 2003 ZX6R - 636 and a 08 model for instance... most preffer the 636 because it has great midrange power, it looks better and handles just as good.

Like I said, street riding with ocassional back road rippage... you can do even on a cruiser. Like a old Vmax.

Buying something new and over the top is what kills these young riders. Older bikes are harder to ride, when I get on Walec's RR it feels like a nimble little toy. Where my bike even thou the difference is maybe 50lbs in weight, feels like a heavy slug. New riders thinking they are Valentino Rossi killing it because they don't know their limits on their machines. Most people don't like my bike because it feels a bit top heavy and that scares them going into the corner. Its a typical V-Twin feel.

I have absolutely no problems keeping up with any group of riders/squids I have ridden with, my shit is 7 years old too. Its all about how you ride, and how you exploit your machine.

there's reasonable pushing it and then there's just plain stupid. most are just stupid and don't push it reasonably and have not practiced or learned any emergency maneuvering. pushing limits is fine, we all do it, but you have to do it a little at a time and only once you feel comfortable with a certain limit before that

I completely agree, you push yourself get used to it and push more, unlike what people do is push and not get farmiliar to reactions and do stupid shit.

My point was we'll never reach the bikes limits

DasTeknoViking
06-15-2009, 10:06 AM
Kids try pushing the limit, the limit that is not attainable. These EASY to ride bikes allow for them to do so in much easier manner.

Ride a old 90s Crotch like a SECAII or ZX600 and you will feel that they don't really want to turn that easy, and they feel very vauge. Then plop yourself ontop of a new 600 and see how much technology has progressed. Old bikes taught you to ride better, where these new bikes make my GF look like a pro. I have ridden them, yes they are SUPER easy to ride.

My next bike has landed.... but not in the US yet.

Along with the sexiest VFR yet, Honda has finally succumbed and given us a road motorcycle with a V5 engine derived from the successful 990cc RC211V MotoGP machine.

If that's not enough, they've also linked it to a Ferrari-style push-button gearchange for the fastest, smoothest gearchange yet seen, running through shaft drive with a trademark VFR single-sided swingarm.

In race trim the V5 makes 240HP for the MotoGP 11 time winner RC211V.

I have ridden them, yes they are SUPER easy to ride.

so I should buy an old bike cause they handle worse and they will help me learn to ride better?

trust me, it takes skills to ride a newer crotch rocket, unless you just want to go fast in line, anyone can do it

DasTeknoViking
06-15-2009, 06:32 PM
Its NOT a Rebel....

Its a 2007 Honda VT750C2 Shadow. I absolutely love the look, its got a big 21" front tire, 1650 miles on the odo, Cobra pipes, backrest, Jetted carb. It just came in few days ago, the picture is not of my bike, but a similar one they had in-stock.

I HIGHLY recommend Banzai, everyone was supppper cool to deal with. I dealt with a dude in his early 20's named Teddy. He was Polski so it was no problem for my GF to talk to the guy. She loves the bike... its got some silver flames on the gas tank.

We got it for way less than the Ninja 250. What I like about it, I don't feel like an idiot riding it, and neither does she. Bike sounds like a real bike !

We didn't bring it home yet, they are putting it through the shop to do all the checks on it. I gave em a deposit and tomorrow I will deliver the rest of the $$$. ONLY draw back, the gas tank has a dent in it. Its in a weird spot but the bike otherwise is spotless. I didn't care for the dent really, and it was priced 2K bux less than another 750 ;)

They got a 08 1000RR in white.... and Ted is giving me a killer deal on it.

Want to buy a RC ? :)

I would sell mine for 5K also. Quite alot of $$ invested since I bought the bike.

oil brand and type, as well as filter, ill probably do oem filter on that thing.

DasTeknoViking
06-15-2009, 10:24 PM
OEM filter. As for oil, there isn't much difference :
Honda oil - semi synthetic or full.
Spectra Gold - my boy with the CB599 loves this stuff...
Amsoil- ran in my Kawi and never had any issues, burned maybe half a qt between changes.
Repsol - been running it in the RC51, I'm almost due for my oil change too...

Just make sure it meets your bikes requirements and you should be set. BUY online !!
http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Motorcycle-Perfect-Motorcycles-08C35-A141M01/dp/B000LZEKHS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1245122825&sr=8-1

I ran this to break in my new Barnett clutch in the RC, it was good enough.... and I don't see the point in using Repsol or anything else if this stuff is just as good and costs a fraction of a cost.

DasTeknoViking
06-16-2009, 10:44 PM
I will tell you right now.... its forgiving, but at the same time it will scare you shit-less. I do not think its the right thing for me to even offer it to someone whos never ridden in the past. If you read any reviews, people say its a pretty tough bike to ride.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080614220532AAsFK5m - some opinions from people. If you can learn self control, it might be ok... but like many said in that link, its not like a inline bike. If you want to give it a try, I won't mind- but any damage you do to it.... you are responsible for.

Didn't bring it home, they are doing maintenance on the bike and its been raining. I don't need it till the weekend anyways ;)

kerosene

Next time I see you and have the garage I'll check it out (not before, not taking chances of needing to store a bike), might as well... I've read similar things on other forums (rc51forums.com) but the main things I've read is you need to respect it and keep in mind how much power it does have and one wrong move can mean disaster. I know we've (bikers on the forum) have had that discussion what to start on (250or +) and many people said higher ones are harder to keep under control... but from what I've read it's easier to establish your expirence since they require more precise maneuvers; only thing that worries me most is developing those skills while learning to maintain the bikes 'inner beast' with 250's + theres more... whats the word... lag... between you slowly releasing the clutch and engaging throttle, from what I've read (if I understand it correctly) the v-twin lacks that lag, its a high amount of power, quickly and is maintained throughout.

I thought they were going to be done, when are you guys getting it?

DasTeknoViking
06-16-2009, 11:12 PM
Deposit has been put down, and all I need to do is ride the shit back after I give them the check.

Its a 750CC V-Twin, but its not a high performance 120+HP Twin, its more like 40-50HP and low end TQ. Good for starters due to very low seat height and easy power delivery.

RC is a awesome city bike, its low end power allows you to short shift the fuck out of it. Lets put it this way, my buddy on his SV650 and another guy with a CB599 (old 600cc from a 600F4) had to redline every gear till 100MPH to keep up with me, short shifting at 5K RPM. Its THAT nice. Guy @ Banzai told me not to bother selling it, unless its a new R1 or a 08+ CBR cause I won't like anything else that remotely comes close to its low end power.

Shadow has a really light and short "throw" clutch so shes cool with it.... I deff understood the question you where trying to get across few posts up higher... Its not really adjustable much like my bike's clutch for instance. Sport bikes have all kinds of diff levers availible for em, so do cruisers. Its got a old school cable linkage clutch vs my full hydraulic setup.

None of the worn out gearbox syndromes like the MSF bikes exhibited.

just a comparison
motorcycle quarter mile(sec. @ mph) 60-80mph (sec.) 80-100mph(sec.)
RC51 ('02) 10.49 @ 132.7 4.23 4.71
CBR600RR ('05) 10.49 @ 133.3 3.59 3.56
CBR1000RR ('06) 9.898 @ 146.47 2.76 2.58

I hope this gives you a better spread of what inline performance these bikes can do. As you see my old CBR (couldn't find 07, but its the same thing) VS RC51 = CBR makes it look like its standing still. Power and pull is brutal
and the 600cbr.....vs rc51= same in 1/4, but from a roll it pulls on it with ease and long as you get on it in the power band.

Greg, stock gearing on a RC isn't friendly for 1/4 runs.... I couldn't take my riding test on it for my M class because its IDLE speed was 17MPH and it was too fast and lumpy (cause of idle) through the cones on the slalom test.

Geared like mine should be way closer to a high 9. Either way, I had no trouble last year on lake shore drive against your black bike up to 150 or something we went to.

redline is there for fun. i rarely do it, mostly when riding in groups. if it's straightaways then yea, 1k bikes will win but on turns, it depends on the rider. i've seen guys on liter bikes be beat by those on 600's plenty.

as for power delivery, look at the bikes. v-twins will have the most low-end power in its class period. triple is inbetween, plenty of low-end but also has a high rev line like an inline 4. i can easily be at 4k and have more than enough power to go and 6k and up is where it really kicks in. I4's have power more upper middle to top.

Alan, get what you need done and then start looking for bikes. it's fine reading up on bikes and seeing what you want but if you can't buy one right now, no point in talking about it.

Yea the 600's r plenty quick. Its just how you use the power that matters. Yea if all u do is go in a straight line then gek urself a big liter bike. I'm not saying that all I do is carve the canyons but the 600 is plenty quick and power wheelies are easily doable in first and second. Now on a liter bike. You've got more power down lower to use and its easier to pull stunts or haul ass.

Basically it depends on the rider and what they are looking for. I personally wouldn't mind a liter bike now, but I'm gonna ride out this season on the 600 and look for something else for next year. And me and marcin went head to head, I short shifted first because it was lifting the nose of the bike. Once I shifted to second and was out of the powerband he took me without a problem.

I let off shortly after taking off for a bit since wasn't really thinking of racing and then gunned it again. liter bike would be nice but there's none that really catches my eye.

damn, almost got into some major shit during the ride from school.

i was comming down foster and its pretty damn dead at this time. a few cars here or there, but anyway, im at foster right past the edens before elston and im doing about 45-50 and this jagoff decides to pull out into the two lane road, not into the open lane, but right into my lane, not a whole 50 feet infront of me.

i squeezed the front brakes hard, mashed on the rear brake and downshifted to first like a mofo, i was only in 3rd, so no biggie. but i didnt revmatch properly and started to wagg my tail. shit, thank god i stopped in time. fucken would have been a trunk emblem.

i had some nice words with the hispanic prick driving, looked like he was high or drunk as fuck. wouldnt even look back at me or anything, fucking asshole, i should have broke his mirror off and kicked in his door. asshole turned onto elston, lucky fuck!!!

Plans changed.... we ended up not getting that Shadow 750. It was a little too big for her and heavy.

So I added this to the garage.

1997 Suzuki Savage 650. Kinda weird riding it home, 1 cylinder whoop whooop whooooop noises, but it was smooth and accelerated just fine. I need to rejet the carb on it, bitch sounds like someone is shooting at you on deceleration. Its got some kinda pipe on it because it sounds about as loud as my RC.

I got it for cheap as fuck off Craigs List, paid cash for it. Girl is happy as you can see by her PINK JoeROKKET sweat shirt. She needed a starter bike, this bitch felt comfy.

I am getting over food poisoning today so my head is very light headed and I have problems standing at times. So my review of its "handling" isn't exactly going to be right.

I don't know how long we r going to keep this bike for, it's perfect for her due to it's size. Andy if you are interested I will be willing to sell it once she's comfy with the bike and is ready for a larger machine. I got to change the oil on it, gonna rejet the carb and clean it up. With the right mods this thing can crank out about 38whp and around 38-40 tq which is not bad considering it's light and shouldn't have problem keeping up and even passing the 750 VTwin Honda we put a deposit down on.

She kept on wanting that model bike since we've seen the Suzuki S40 (rebaged Savage) at Chicago Cycle. What has kept me from pulling the trigger on it for her was the 5000 dollar price when the Ninja 250 is just 4000, add in tax and plates and your up to 6000 easy.

38WHP isn't that little.... if you think bout it, those HUGE heavy Harleys are 60-70HP bikes. Even the super modified stroked out ones don't break 100HP. They can't because they are air cooled, and basically high compression requires liquid cooling.

Congrats on the bike Greg, my next bike will probably be a cruiser thou. Probably keep my RC just because I don't want to let it go for any reason. Cruisers don't need to be fast, they just need to be able to let you feel free. Which is pretty much any motorized 2 wheel machine fits that bill.

Not bad for a cheap bike : LS650
MPG so far about 60MPG with my girl on it, running between 45-85MPH today. About 180 miles on a tank, but I told her to fill up at 100 each time.

It needs new brake pads in the front, and I got to adjust the rear drum brake.

Overall for the price I paid, I got an amazing deal on this bike. My girl is thrilled with the bike, only gripes she has : right peg vibrates alot (exhaust pipe hanger is hanging off the peg) and something about the right mirror vibrating a bit too. Shes getting used to the loud ass pops out the exhaust.

My but was QUITE sore after 3 hours out on the bikes, shes perfect - one of the great things about a cruiser. You won't feel the pain even after so many miles. Makes me want to get a cruiser now too.

Yes crotch feels awesome as far as power goes and flickability, but in the end.... it feels good just to enjoy the road.

To all you city dwellers, I feel sorry for ya. Country is beautifull, twisty roads, great scenery, smells, and tons of bikers !

ok dealer called, and confirmed it slips
when the tech was putting the bike together, a shim got stuck to the part on recall, and he was suppose to re-use the shim, from my understanding the clutch didn't grab all the way and when the power hit it slipped
and with my luck it rains today
Part #5,6,9 were replaced and they didn't put in part #8 in the diagram

Its 75 bux to get the "works" done, its cheaper if you don't do the long distance upgrade. I figured what the hell, the seat looks the same. Sargent and Corbins are 250-300 bux and they look like saddles. I like to hang off my seat a bit on the corners and with a saddle thats uncomfortable.

yeah, thats true. im usually splitting between the car and the curb, since harlem is pretty big. i keep it under 7mph almost always. scanning cars like crazy.

oh forgot to mention, the blue and white lights pulled me over yesterday. comming from school, they were behind me from the jeff park police station. pulled me over on foster...again. gave me shit about riding in a tinted visor (like wtf?, nothing wrong with that) and then he gave me shit about my plate. ran my shit, i told him the uncles badge number, came back gave me a verbal warning and let me go.

I've been splitting lanes for a while, passing in no passing zones etc etc. I ride like an ass, on my way home. I do this when I think its safe enough to get by without getting clipped. When I split lanes its usually at higher speeds. I wait for people to move, but if I get stuck behind some traffic for too long and I see them driving like complete fucking tards, its hammer time.

I got to ride my Honda after a week to work yesterday, felt fucking awesome. I rode like I stole it one the way home. I need a bit more miles to get the seat broken in right, but so far no ass pain in any way. I actually feel my womans Suzuki is less comfy for me than my crotch.

I ordered a new tail section for the bike, should be here in a few days. I will be stripping the bike off all the stickers and painting it a diff color, I'm tempted to pick up a C/F gas tank but I have a hard time paying 750 for a tank..... but it is tempting !

Its a guy from work, hes ridden my bike many times. He doesn't want a 4 cylinder after riding a Gixxer 750 one of the guys has at work.

If I sell, probably pick up a new R1. I don't want a 4 cylinder bike, and that new engine has a VERY much a V-Twin like sound and feel to it. S1000RR won't be out for quite some time.... another bike I am KINDA digging is a B-King. But it needs some "Busa" engine upgrades. Its comfy as hell, and they are giving em fuckers away.

that guy is usually pretty safe when riding. ive been with him plenty of times before. usually hangs in the back, going a bit slower. i guess he tried to hop up his game. not a cool move. and yeah, the guys were flying down the eway like mad.

I got my shifter rod for the Suzuki, changed that... what do you know, that shit must have been ready to snap any second. Because since I bought the bike shifts where mehh, soft and never felt like it "snapped" into gear, just felt all mushy. Now its snick snick right into gear. It felt like I was driving a 4th gen Maxima or some shit like that.

Also mounted the OEM Suzuki acessory windshield on it....

Went to look at Aprilas, MV Agustas and Ducatis. I think if I sell the RC, its deff V-something power. 4 cylinder just doesn't do it for me.

RC is getting a custom dyno map installed tomorrow.
