well just got done working on the bike. did a cheap exhaust and intake mod. drilled out the exhaust baffle plate with two nice 3/4" holes. i tried to make a 3rd, but it didnt want to budge. and then i took out the lower intake resonators and closed up that hole.
took it for a ride around the block, throttle responce got just a tad bit better and then its a bit louder in the upper rpms. for being free mods, i cant complain. i like it.

We went riding earlier yesterday, took the scenic route out to Marengo again. Kinda hot but it felt nice able to get away from the house. Nice turns here n there, overall very good ride. Today we might ride to downtown on both bikes, do the SeaDog architectural boat ride through the city- Aska hasn't been on one ever.
Kinda hung over - mentally, so I'm taking it EZ in the morning. We need to go back to Chicago Cycle to pick up her new Icon helmet. I just got her a VERY nice Icon Merc II jacket, Icon gloves...
Need to fix the exhaust on the Suzuki, it has a small leak causing all those pops.... probably gonna order up a new carb, cam and timing tensioner for it next week. Mikuni makes this killer carb which they sell quite a few mods for, along with a cone filter and the cam it should bring the power up to 55WHP. By comparison 750 Honda makes 40ish WHP stock and its hard to get 50 out of one AND it weights 150lbs more.

So how did you like the Suzie on your little ride ? some highway pegs and that bitch is comfy as fuck to ride aint she ? When you are just crusing around like we do, its perfect. Also a good bike to ride to and from work when you are stuck in traffic quite a bit like I am on RT59.

Well on the way to work today, saw a guy on an 05 or 06 600rr go down on harlem and touhy. Was goin at crawling speeds, less then 10 an hr but it must have still hurt. Don't know how he managed to do it, but I pulled over and asked him if he was cool. Said he was ok, arm was scuffed and that's all I saw. No gear at all, and here is my dumb ass riding without any gear on. I saw his arm and I'm like damn, shit looks bad, and imagine if it happens on the eway. I'm still squiddin it, but I'm gonna get some lighter gear. And my mom is pissed that she saw me with no gear on the eway too.....

its not pathetic. its just easy.....i do it cuz im lazy. like yesterday with the chick, i went to her house in a jacket and helmet, but i let her use my helmet and left my jacket on her bed. it was more comfortable and it was hot last night...i didnt want to be all sweaty after the ride and shit.

My 45 mile commute home...... 80% of it was in a huge down pour, and then some of it was hail. Sucked balls... all my clothes soaked in water. I didn't give up, still rode 80MPH in the rain, just no crazy passing or anything.

yeah, in the rain, the tricky shit is the turns and downshifting into them. if you are to agressive, your tire will start skipping and you will start sliding....happened to me twice. never again!!

u never downshift into the turn, you downshift and revmatch before making the turn

threw on that bmc high flow race air filter. it howls a bit more, and throttle responce is more instant. butt dyno doesnt really say wow, lots more power but it breathes a bit better, thats for sure. had to take the whole damn bike apart though. pain in the ass took me about 2 hours to do everything.

Paul... dunno about 600RR, but BMC and K&N actually loose power on 929, 959 and RC51s. OEM was the best. I never put one on my RC simply because people said not too.

Your head thinks you have added power, but in reality you probably lost it. Its usually like that with "power mods" that cost $$$ and don't do jack. I remember the one intake I had on the SE-R a while back, lost power but the noise it made.... made me smile thinking I've added power.
RobSE
07-19-2009, 02:27 AM
^I was running for short ram intake on my sentra for a little while because it was ridiculously loud, switched over to the cold air and I must say, its not as loud, but it seems to "pull" better.
walec05
07-19-2009, 10:18 AM
eh, i just got that one cuz there was a great group buy deal....cost me like 10 bux more than an oem filter. people on the 600rr forums say that it flows better and its worth the money, especially at the group deal price. i wont get the full use out of it unless i do the slip on and plug in the pc3. but hey, my oem one was dirty and needed changing, so why not.

Had my bike on the dyno today ;) Pleased with the results.... dyno operator had to do a few runs as the bike had wheel spin on the dyno like a mofo, bike has over 70TQ from 3500RPM and peak out at 79lbs at 7000.... my AFR is pretty fucked up. TQ was flat pretty much... my soft touch rev limiter isn't disabled which hurt my output. Uploading the video now... here is a shot, sorry iPhone pic/videos.

09-12-2009, 07:15 PM
did u play around with the PC III to tune out the afr?
DasTeknoViking
09-12-2009, 07:46 PM
I had a map in the PCIII which was too rich.... sucks. And my rev limiter was kicking in- soft touch kills 8WHP on top end. My bike topped out at 8500RPM for some odd reason, it peaked out 120.7WHP and 79WTQ... this was in 110F dyno cell with my bike @ 230F !
I know it will put out almost 140 with the same mods and a good PCIII map, my AFR was so bad at top end the bike was smoking black. Guy said the bike pulled hard as shit in the low end and I shouldn't have any issues hitting 140...
I ran it @ DSP Honda today.... I will be back soon, my filters are dirty and I'm not happy with the hot dyno/hot bike result. I know 140 is easily possible !

BMC looses power on my bike, proven that Honda filters work BEST. I'm doing my valve adjustment this winter, gonna do a carbon air box also and get it dyno tunned along with ignition tune @ a specialty shop in WI that build some RC211 GP bikes...
walec05
09-13-2009, 09:35 AM
nice, yeah....dont know how your air box is or what not, but the 600rr is like all curvy and has a bunch of resonators. i took out the resonators, flattened out the path of the intake air going into the filter box. like i said now, you can actually hear it howl now at idle, dont think it did much, but it sounds better. and yeah, honda filters flow pretty good, but i decided to go with the bmc because i got it for super cheap and i needed a filter. and it showed some improvements over stock.

i wouldn't bother with the carbon air box, way too much money
just slap in new filters and tune it out, call it a day

I got the airbox already... its good for 7WHP over stock...
All those bikes make shit for TQ untill 9-10K RPM, its peaky as hell. My curve is 70WTQ from 4K RPM and pretty flat till redline. Dunno what it is below 4K as they did the dyno from 4K RPM on.
HRC cams if I can find them are good for 6WHP, slowly will get to 155WHP with everything bolted on, with max TQ of 85.
I don't like new bikes. They are ugly.

that is weird how you make so much torque so low when most of these rc51s dont peak or get close to 70 until 6-6.5k rpm....

walec05

fuck heated gear. tire is way to slick. doesnt warm up and i like to push it. i was out a couple nights ago, it was a bit chilly and the ground was cold. i thought the tire had warmed up enough......i was on the highway for like 15 min then went to side streets. get in first, do a quick burnout, notice that it broke loose quick. so i ride a little harder to get it to warm up some more.....and then just as im clutching it up in second, fuckin rear end starts to slip and slide all over the place. decided to do a rolling burnout on me, sideways for about 50 foot. damn was i shittin bricks.
so my riding season is over when it hits the lower 60's

that is why a lot of the accidents happen in spring and fall, cold temperature, leaves and other crap on the street
also the tire compound and model is important, the dunlop 208 i had on my 600 sucked in cold and warm, while the pirelli diablo corsa III rocked, and my latest bikes dunlop qualifiers where also awesome
and pretty much 60 and under the tires don't grip so no Valentino Rossi into the corners lol
but the bike does pull hard when it is in the 60s...last thursday on the way to work mine pulled so hard the it lifted the front by itself in 2nd gear @ WOT and full tank of gas:) that is my last memory of it:missu:

My 2CT Pilot Powers grab alright on those low to mid 40s temps, only thing that stop me from riding is fog. Out by me I get a ton of it in the mornings which sucks because even with anti fog chemicals on the screen I still get fog on the inside. But since job market sucks in Chicago I might be moving to a state with year round riding conditions as my lease on my townhouse runs out Nov 1st and it's a perfect oportunity to pack up and move on

best way is to go to the insurance company and ask them. they'll be able to give you the most accurate quote. for me, and others here, statefarm was the cheapest but do check out other providers. being 24, having a good record, and the bike under my name, i pay $91 per month for insurance.

i would suggest getting the bike insured under an older family members name, maybe an older brother or your dad. when i got quoted under my name and age, i almost shit a brick....insurance was over $2500 a year. i insured it under my dads name and me as a secondary rider, im paying just under $300 per year.

Little notice to you people who want to do that.... I got a tip from my agent that they will be checking for M endorsement on the insured motorist.
I know crotch rockets are "cool" n all.... but seriously consider a standard bike (Monster, SV1000, FZ6) insurance will be cheaper. Being 20 you will pay an arm and a leg, and insurance companies are getting tired of kids wrecking their bikes under their parents name.

Yep, soon that will be in 100% enforcement.... If there is a 2nd rider involved they are doing this to prevent scamming them out of $$$. How many people have you seen fuck up a bike under the age of 25 ? I say ALOT.

you should talk to pawel he did bunch of track days in his kawi days
he always went with NESBA http://www.nesba.com/Info/TrackEvents.htm

well the bike is officially put away for the winter. all i need to do is get it detailed and cover it up. should be happening within the next couple weeks.
put some fuel stabilizer in it, filled it up to a full tank, lubed the chain, checked the tire pressure....ran it hard through all the gears one more time and practically finished off the rear tire :-).
it felt good being on it and pounding away at it, and im definately going to miss it for the next half year.

Got my new insurance coverage in the mail... since I am now married here is how it went :
Used to be low 400s for 6mo full coverage on the RC51..
New is 221 for 6mo full coverage !!!
Not bad, and they say marriage is bad ;) Just for shits n giggles I asked about a 04 F4i and 06 600RR because I might get those for my wife : 175 bux for 6mo full coverage on either one !
My car insurance dropped from 960 for 6mo to just 700. It being a high risk car, my Maxima if I still had it would have cost me 190 per 6mo with my record : 13 years with the same ins company and agent !

The diff between 500 and 0 is so little that it was nonsense.
I know of one guy who had a bike @ our shop, insured with Progressive for years. His dad was on the policy and he was the rider.... he crashed the bike. Insurance didn't cover it, even thou he was a add on. Why ? His dad didn't have an M category license and COULDN'T ride. It don't matter if you are 50 years with your agent, State Farm is a big company and they will deny the claim if they want. Just be careful and don't crash, If you do.... they don't just hand a check over, they investigate.

Once i do find a steady job im either gonna buy a new/used car or my parents were thinking of buying a townhouse or condo to resell later and just have me live in it and pay off the mortgage, that was my original plan before i got laid off i would put down have the down payment and they the other half considering since townhomes or condos are going for cheap now a couple years down the road we could resell it for profit but hey for some reason everytime i get my shit in order life kicks me in the balls again lol

Personally... I would go for a beater that runs and doesn't need much in $$$ to keep going.
As far as bikes go, ANY bike will do. And you will have more fun on a STANDARD bike than a crotch. Seriously uncomfortable after sometime in the saddle. As un-sporting as my wifes old Suzuki was, it was so much fun to ride I would take it to work any chance I could. It was a bit small on me but it would do 100 if I pushed it allllll the way, it was plenty fast to keep ahead of traffic.
I think once you ride a standard or a cruiser type bike, you will forget about a sports bike. I love my Honda, but it punishes you as a ride like a mofo. And I really mean that, you come off a touring bike after 300 miles and you are a bit worn out, you come off a crotch after 300 miles and it feels like you just ran 5 miles, rested for like 5 min and ran another 5 miles. Thats how I felt after goin to Galena with my old lady this summer, she rode her Suzuki and was a bit tired when we got home, I collapsed when we walked into the house. Granted I had about 50lbs of crap in my back pack on my back.
I'm not telling you what to buy, but if you want to go fast for a short distance.... get a crotch they are fast, and a blast to ride. If you want to do some real riding, go far out of town (ridin in the city is like fuckin a girl wearing a rubber) and enjoy it... but a day out on a crotch will have you really worn out. Thats when you invest in a standard bike, like a Ducati Monster, Honda CB919... plenty of speed to keep up with the 600RRs. Yet don't punish you like a crotch. Me, I am set on a Connie 14...
Oregon on 2 wheels this summer.

Have not ridden my bike yet, but I decided to stick with my vintage beast of a bike because frankly I can't picture myself on anything else right now. I simply love this old beat up machine which in my 3 years with it hasn't given me any issues aside for my clutch which ended up being a faulty master cylinder.
I ordered up some new fork seals and new fork oil, I have almost 30K miles on her and Honda says to replace fork oil every 10K miles. Duuuhhh never been done here :P
So I went on a mini shopping spree again on my favorite shopping site, Amazon:
Repsol 5WT Synthetic Fork oil- 2 bottles.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31LEUrXXoqL._SS400_.jpg
Repsol 4T Racing Synthetic engine oil - 4L jug.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/311w2rzBbwL._SS400_.jpg
Repsol Brake fluid.
Honda Oil filters.
Also going to remove all emissions junk, adjust my valves... sent the wheels out to get poweder coated. I'm gonna put on a set of NEW Honda filters (BMC and K&N don't work well) for my air filtration needs.
I got my Michelin Pilot Power 2CT sitting and waiting on the powedercoated wheels !

Paul your bike needs more than just coolant and oil. What about your brake fluid ? fork oil ? Tire pressure ? Chain lube ? I dunno man if you want to ride your bike hard, and not like a pussy you need to do alot more to it than just change the oil and coolant.
When it comes down to it : 2 wheels, very little margin for error. I would want all the fluids and important bolts went over.
I took mine for a short trip today around my hood, its been 4 months since I've heard it run. She fired right up, settled to a smooth idle. No insurance and bald tires restricted me to my short trip. Waiting on the wheels so I can get down to it !

never did burnouts, but after 7-8k miles, the grip was not there and you could tell they went through too many heat cycles
other than that, I only changed oil, and lubed the chain every time i washed it or rode it in the rain, all my bikes were newer and i sold them before doing any maintenance to them

Save the cash for a nice bike, you will enjoy it much more. I dunno I can rock my 87 Golf and not care if I have a R32 or not, as long as I have a bike. Your Sentra is much nicer than my 87. I love that flat blue color. How's the power compared to that Ninja ;) ? You don't need boots to roll on the highway, I like riding with sneakers when it's hot. My Joe Rockets get hot as fuck, I might try some Sidi or Icons.
I have been riding a Harley lately... Just kept quiet ;) My RC will be done next week. Wheels are almost finished, body parts are half way done in Chevy HHR hot red.
All I need is slap the stuff back on and split lanes again ;)

Yeah you dont really need them but I'd feel more at ease with a pair on. I'm keeping an eye out for closeouts online. The power is definitely better, I went on the eway once (its too addicting) and I was at 80 before I knew it.

I'm working on putting turn signals into my headlights, there is a little area in the top of the headlight where you can grind out a hole for a turn signal. In Spain these came with parking lights in that area.

I am a bit slow on my build as I went on vacation and couldn't tear my bike apart like I wanted because I had to move my car in the tinny garage I have... so about a month ago I took it apart and I was shopping around for body shops and powdercoated.
Well I painted it black, just the tank at first because I couldn't get a firm answer from any painter on the paint. Finally when I had all the pieces ready for primer, and some where primered... I got a call from a guy @ a Jaguar body shop who my buddy is family with. I got the bike professionally painted, front fascia, both side fairings, tail section and the tank. I didn't paint the fender because I ordered up a carbon fiber fender and hugger from CarbonPartz.com - will be in here in a week.
In the mean time I had the wheels powdercoated @ Precission Autoworks in Oakbrook for 300 bux including removing the old 2CT Pilots, removing the old bearings and seals... installing and balancing new tires - 2CTs again, and got new valve stems and bearings installed.
Paint on the bike is Ferrari red (sorry my camera makes the pictures look dark in my garage lightning)... wheels are gold to match the calipers.

Its a bit chilly still, so I am not missing out on any riding.... but I can't wait. I left the original white on the nose to break away from all the red and gold :)

No other stickers but the black wings with Honda under them just on the tank. I might put 2 small RC51 stickers on the tail. I like the plain look.
I got some header wrap for my pipes, just gonna wrap them from under the swing arm to the canisters/mufflers. Gold bar ends and spools on the rear swing arm. Vortex has light gold levers, they don't look the same. Since it's gonna be 2 weeks out till I get the carbon parts in, I might just drop off a bunch of small pieces I want to have in gold. Exhaust brackets, rear sets, rear pegs and clutch/brake levers.
Thanks for the comments guys, I'm gonna take her out of the garage once it's done and take a few shots of her in the sun. The red looks really good, it's not orange-ish like the pics make it seem. It's nice and deep gloss, everything on the panels is smooth as I did a really good job on fixing all the rash from the previous owner.
I'm gonna also respray my undertail in black again, it's picked up alot of chips from the rear tire. I'm going for showroom look on this bike, it's becoming an older bike and I don't want it to look dated.

Just got her finished, shes ready to ride. I wasn't able to get the fork oil changed because I need an impact to take out the drains from the forks... but thats ok. I'm just being super careful. I am waiting on the C/F fender and hugger(rear fender) and the small Honda decals for the gas tank.
Its too dark and late out for me to start it up, so I didn't get to give it a run yet.
BETTER pictures to come in day light, paint looks either orange or pink with the flash, and w/o I can't get the correct paint to pop at me in a photo shot. Overall I am very impressed how it came out. Just needs some small details here n there.

05-11-2010, 11:14 PM
yeah getting on a new 600 is like riding a 250 for me. Old bikes where pretty massive, but Honda has kept the weight down, its not a heavy bike by all means. But you need to be used to its riding position and how the weight is all up on top. Since its a VTwin it tends to be more top heavy in this application with the huge gas tank on top of the huge air box.
What I like the most about this bike, I can store a 6 pack of beer under the seat. New bikes can bare fit your wallet under the seat.
gotta mount the plate somewhere still, wash it up a bit etc.

Not liking big windy days either, leaning into the corner sometimes feels weird as the bike is like a big sail and it gets pushed around. We had some huge winds in Chicago yesterday.

looks too plain ! Doesn't pull off the white as well as the Duc or the Daytona 675.

WTF is a teletubbie ? As a Polski brought up in Poland we didn't get brain washed by stupid garbage like that. We had a cartoon at 7:00 and that was about 15 min long and half the time it was a silent one, then the news came till 8 and then we had movies on that had full nude scenes and there where no warnings on tv to tell you there will be some fucking going on. So go back to your teletubbies.
I rode my teletubbie today to work, and will be riding it till November, time for another oil change this year too... I ride my shit, not talk about riding ganksta and getting pulled over for stupid shit.
Greg, red one looked better, overall the old 1k was a nicer looking bike.

I liked the Red one as well, looked very "grown up".

I dig this white one. Would purchase if not for my crippling debt.
