I'm copying a PM from Brian. This event is a great time for all:
I'm in. I've been to a couple of these and both the cruise and show are a blast!
Brian writes:
I will be hosting a car cruise/meet (very informal) on Saturday May 17th. We will be meeting at 9:00am in Baraboo Wisconsin. The location will be at McDonalds on Hwy 12 across from Gander MTN. I am hoping to post this on 8thcivic.com and maxima.org. as well. I have done this with the maxima.org people 3 times before.
The intent of this day is to meet from 9:00am until approx. 9:30am and then we will begin a cruise that will take about 1.5 – 2hrs through various local back roads. We will end up in Wisconsin Dells at a pre-determined location and continue with the meet or perhaps go to the car show etc. Route details to follow.
On this weekend, for those who haven’t done this with me before, there is a car show in the Dells on this weekend and usually 1200-1500 cars tend to show up. There are also many cars that are there not for the “Show” but just to be there. I have been going to this car show for the last 10+ years or so and it gets bigger nearly every year. It ends up being a great time.
This will be the 4th cruise so far.
All are welcome. I would like all to know that this is a cruise at a “reasonable pace”…not a time for high speed racing and other nonsense.
Thank you, Brian

That was lots of fun. Shouldn't call it a cruise as much as road racing :wall:
It's def lots of fun and it humbles you at the same time. I don't know what I'm doing that weekend yet, but I'm def interested to do the ride again.

Not road racing....just "spirited" driving. Taking a 30mph curve at 60 is a whole lot more interesting to me than going 120 in a straight line.
And Hector...you need a better car than the one you had last year. Then you can keep up better. 3 guys, 60 series tires and worn suspension make for "scary" driving instead of spirited.....

I have a better car with more stuff done to it now. I'm rolling in a 5sp, and have a front tie ba/drop/AGXs. Just need to put the rear sway bar. Tires are about 3 months old although they are All Seasons.
Anyone want to buy me some rims and tires or at leats pitch in? :wall: My B-day is the same week :ninja:

I'll be there and Tim with his Sentra is planning on it, too...and possibly a friend with a Lexus IS.
I think we ought to stop for lunch at the end of the cruise, too.

I might do an Autism walk on Sunday morning :wall:
Last year I was up since Friday 6am didn't sleep all night. We drove from the west burbs at 2am to get there by 4/5am because internets said it was 3 hour drive but I expected contruction we we left earlier. We got there drove all day, and i didn't sleep for more than a couple of minutes every other hour. Got home changed, and then went to Ontourage to celebrate a b-day partied all night and knocked out at 6am on Sunday. It was pretty exhausting and painful becasue I was up for more than 36hours in a row with plenty of activity. :andy:

It won't be that long this year. That way we can see more of the car show before they all start cruising the main road.

Sounds fun, I would love to run the car on those back roads up there.
Have fun.
I want to do this, but to much time taken already off from work for just about every Saturday of the month of May.

Just make a donation to the walk, and come to the Dells for the cruise. That's a win-win.

I was about to suggest taking your car also, but I know it seem pointless to some degree, but mini-caravans have been fun in the past. I have been trying to convince my bro to bring his bucket also. :wall:

so, are we all going to cruise from chicago to baraboo or straight to the show or what? just trying to figure out exactly what's going on with it.
Mr Grey
05-13-2008, 05:55 PM
We roll to Baraboo, and then start the cruise. Last year we stopped for lunch somewhere, and then made it to the show. Lots of fun pushing the car through some twisties. I'm still going. I'll probably roll out at 5am o Saturday
Bluesbrekr
05-13-2008, 07:23 PM
I'm going to be in Baraboo about 9 for the cruise. The cruise won't be as long as last year...we didn't get back to the show till it was almost over. I'm figuring we'll be back to the Dells by about 1:00. Plenty of time to check the cars out before they start rolling down the main drag.

Just googled the trip from home to the BcD's in Baraboo. 182 miles about 3 hours 18 min. I'll be rolling by 5:30am at the latest.
If I didn't have to work and go to a bachelor party I would have gone to this.

It was a good time. Less time driving than last year, but we got to enjoy the Car Show this time. Tom took plenty of pics from the car show. It was a total of 6 car running the route, and we all managed to keep within eye sight. There was a wipeout, but no damage done to anyone their cars, or any property. Pics will follow when Marcin has time.
Might be doing it again next month when Cale comes back home

still waiting on pics of the crash..........or spin out, whichever. i want to see a car in the ditch.

Pics were taken after the ditch. There were pictures of the tire skid marks well as dirt on wheel wells. Those are in Marcin's camera. He's still editing stuff out.
BTW, nice pics Tom. Those cars were nice on the eyes. Some of the paint jobs on them were really cool. Ghost flames that receded into the rest of the car, and metallics that popped the moment shined on them. Those 2 cars that rolled out were coll. The super low one to the ground, and that Hemi monster that would rattle other cars with just the exhaust sound. :andy:

mmmm, hemi. i always love the sound of a big american motor.....one that has individual exhausts per side, instead of an x or h-pipe connecting them. sound awsome.

This guy was just running headers
The rumble from that thing was sick. Everyone knew where it was coming from, and a crowd formed around it as he was trying to pull out.

yeah, i love how they have the long tube headers into just like a little two foot pipe that dumps out under the car, or right behind the front wheels....looks killer.

Just the rear wheels were off the road in the dirt/grass. Hector thought it was cool to see my exhaust blowing out dirt!
Mr Grey
05-19-2008, 11:37 AM
It was weird to see the dirt come off though. :gotme:
We taking a left curve as we cam down a little hill. Tom was following a line close to the right edge of the road. The passenger rear tire caught some gravel/rocks/dirt and made the tail whip to the right. Tom countered it, but the momentum was too big that the counter steer made the car rotate clockwise. while still moving forward. His reaction was done right because he kept the car on the road for the most part. It backed into a dip at the end when the car stopped moving forward/spinning. That's how he caught a clump of dirt in the tips, and a good amount of dirt on the lip of the rim. He slowed the car from spinning any more or else he could have hit some fence posts that were another 5 feet away. Good thing was no one got hurt, and the rim didn't receive any visual damage. Just a bit of dirt. It was a little sur-real to see it happen. Andy and I kept kept thinking Tom was too close to the right edge. It was almost as if we saw it coming, but didn't wish for it to happen.
Looks like you guys had a good time. Pics look great Tom.
