Straight off the org.
"How do I make the steering wheel controls work with an aftermarket headunit?"
This is a two step process. First you have to obtain the PAC-SWI adapter from Crutchfield or some other mobile audio dealer. This will allow you to utilize the radio functions on the steering wheel.
Secondly, to regain use of the trip computer (the one with temp, DTE, MPG, etc.) you have to first locate the small wiring harness you removed from the stock deck, but diudn't use in the install of your aftermarket deck. This is a small harness with 4-5 wires in it. One of these wires is brown with a white stripe/marking. This wire must be cut from the harness, the stripped and grounded. I recommend grounding it to the large metal peice below the vents (you can use a small screw or electrical tape), or any other grounding site. This will now give you full use of all steering wheel controls.
Theres a few other company's that offer the same unit for the steering wheel controls..

am i the only one that is annoyed by all the permanent advertising on radios of features... they could have made the text line longer or added more buttons, but no, they need to remind you of features you know you have every time you look at it...

every radio has all it's features listed RIGHT on the ****ing faceplate! Pisses me off too.
Have the xm and sirius logos, hd radio then mp3 logo and sat radio and all that useless ****...

Touche' def clutters the face plenty. I too see no need for any of that when most of them have a certain standard of features.

and its all on the ****ing box when you buy it. You know what you bought, that's why you picked that certain unit. No need to plaster it all over the faceplate...

I never owned one, so I'm not much help. It's very similar to the 4th from what I have heard/seen. Not only that, you're asking when most people have plans or are out of town. :squint:

No advertising of "features" found here...
Alpine does high end stuff right.
My double din Kenwood in my Acura has a ton of writting but I didn't care, it needed a radio and i can care less if it says Dupa Jas on the front or Polaks Are Morons.... I woulda still bought that bish cause it was cheap and it does what I need it to do.
Peace

I have the model right below that one I posted a picture of, diff between this and mine is that has a USB port in the front and AUX, where mine has just AUX. I don't have anything USB other than maybe a flash card to stick into it..... i got the iPOD hook up for it and its working great. Pretty neat head unit, but it has "too much writting on it" so it won't please you bishes.

I aint ever buying Kenwood again..... the one I put in my old Legend sounded like shit compared to the bad Eclipse that was in there before.... Eclipse had a bad CD player.
Stick to Alpine.... and maybe Pioneer.

Yes, Kenwood is cheap and expensive, there are many units that you can get for that cost.

Crutchfield has the 700 series Pioneer for 499 shipped.... has navi and all.
But ya gotta move out of the hood to have that.... or they gonna steal it in no time again.

well the one they they jacked was kenwood exelon, and gave me no problems, i hooked up 16Gb flash drive to it with like 30 folders that had pics programs and it found music and didn't bitch @ me.
the thing is i don't need neither navi nor HD radio, the only thing stopping me from getting PIONEER FH-P8000BT is that it doesn't have the front USB

Pioneer looks much better, I really like that HU... and you can run a USB cable from behind it and tuck away the cable in the center console somewhere.

thats the only problem i'm worrying about, this one looks much cleaner than kenwood, but the convenience of USB up front without hustle has me up in the air right now, just b/c it will fill the whole dash i will not have any space to put the connector around it for a clean look, and don't want to cut holes right in front of my face

hide it behind the hu or put it in the glove box..

Personally I think USB stick sticking out of the HUs face looks friggn ugly and retarded.... I would run a USB cable and stick it in the arm rest. They got a small cut out in there for a cable to put through. I know this because I ran my iPOD cable through the center console and up into the arm rest where the iPOD always sat and never moved.
This gives you the convenience of doing iPOD or USB at any time. Pioneer > Kenwood.
