So who is pulling the trigger and getting 2 wheels this summer?
there is only 3 resident riders here
Me
Boss
Wizard
Baker-ex rider, sold his gold wing:)

mike i am signing up my woman for the motorcycle safety course, and so is pawel (not walec, my buddy with the R1)

We MIGHT be picking up a GS500 for her soon..... I need to assess the FOCUS and see how much work it will need. Shes been talking bout getting a newer car, but I know she don't wanna pay alot for it either.

I can get the GS from a coo-worker who has been trying to sell it for a while now..... 1400 miles on a 06 "F" model.

My RC will be goin through total transformation next month.

i have decided against it for now... i'm going to wait until i graduate uic and move out to avoid a HUGE hassle and I should have a career rather than a job so I will be able to afford a newer bike as opposed to a 1974 honda that i was planning on getting...

either way, i am not as old as you fackers so i can wait :D

I'm going to be buying one in a few years, when the kid is older and I actually have some time to do something I want to do. Before I buy a MC I also need to get a bigger house, one with a 3 or 4 car garage. Man that would be sweet. And the way the market is now, I'm not going to be selling my house for along time. The real thing that would prevent me from buying a MC, and the reason I sold my MC and Jetski is the fact that my life is severly limited. I used to do whatever I wanted to do, whenever I wanted to do it, now I'm lucky if I can have 20 minutes of alone time a day to choke my chicken or play COD4. Let my life serve as a warning to all you single, partying, casual sex having, fun-loving, disposable income having guys. So a MC doesn't really work into my schedule right now, I'm too busy changing diapers, going to work, buying groceries, or whatever the fuck married fathers do.

i was gonna get one last summer, but itll most likely happen this coming spring, not sure on what yet though.

I've been thinking about getting a 600rr in the springtime, wouldn't be a bad idea since I still have the sentra for everyday use and slight modifications. It wouldn't be a bad idea, I can resell the bike after a year or two and not lose much $$ on it aswell, allowing me to get a "newer" car i.e 07+G sedan, 335i sedan, G8, EVO, or something equivalent.

Ahhh the possibilities, time will only tell. If I find an amazing deal on a bike I like, I will most likely jump on it.

12-29-2008, 01:49 PM
yeah, most likely will be waiting until i move out of the house for when i get a bike... which probably wont be for a while...

Depends if i feel like keeping the max another couple years, if i do the either well then either a 1000rr or a r1

I'll be doing it after 21, my insurance rates will drop, I was paying 1079 for 6mths just now... for car coverage... *sigh* no tickets, no accidents, clean record...

DasTeknoViking
12-30-2008, 11:24 PM
LOL.... a new bike would cost you about 2K for a 600cc for a year. 1000cc would be around 4K bux for a year.

The joy of being old ;)

kerosene
12-30-2008, 11:27 PM
after 21 the price drops a significant amount, plus... I dont care :P I've always wanted a bike... well since I can remember... something about the thrill of having only a small peice of plexi and leather between you and the road... not to mention when going on longer trips you can do it at a pace where you see things... just something very enjoyable about it

DasTeknoViking
12-31-2008, 12:10 AM
Its not a huge drop but still it helps. The biggest one is once ya hit 25.... I'm past that age and I am accident and ticket free.

My old 600cc Kawi Ninja cost me 140 bux for a year full coverage, and my 1000cc Honda is 260 bux.

When I was 22 I was quoted 1200 for my R1, I ended up sellin it when I found out how much that shit costs to insure. I bought with the aspirations to resell for a profit.

Riding a bike at a pace only happens when you got time, and then you have to pay attention to EVERYTHING on the road still. SuperSports are VERY hard on your body, after riding 300 miles in a day you will be dead : emotionally, and mentally.

I plan on riding out to Detroit this summer to meet up with my uncle on my bike.... its 360 miles one way.

kerosene
12-31-2008, 12:17 AM
True it is hard on your body, but sometimes its nice (or so I would imagine) to just sit on your bike and go for a ride... I have those days in my car, and I can only think how it will be on the bike...

Insurance might be a bitch, I realize that... we'll see after 21 and 22

I wasn't much into biking in the past because I loved road racing in my car(s). But I drive ALOT and with gas prices in the 4 dollar range and my gas bill in the 800 a month range, I got my 01 Kawi Ninja ZX6R. I loved it, rode it all over the place and got around 50MPG. Then I got the speed bug FAST and when Greg showed me the RC51 I have now on Craig's list..... we rolled up there on our bikes, looked at it, came in the next day with cash and I rode it home.

Its like a big block of bikes, might not be the fastest, but it will do 10 second 1/4 runs and top out around 180.

Oh it gets about 38-40MPG if I baby it.

You don't baby a RC51.

kerosene
12-31-2008, 12:39 AM
Ya dude, you are talking about speed, first bike I can care two shits less what speed it is, i just want something I can enjoy.. know what I mean?

just like you I wasnt much into cars till I got my first one and started tinkering with it ;) takes over your life and wallet more than a woman

DasTeknoViking
12-31-2008, 12:46 AM
Ya but I got into it too hardcore, I started with stereos on my moms Sentra back in 1995.... then I got my own car and its been a roller coaster ride since then.

We are talking many Turbo Sentras over the years. I bought my 1st non Nissan in 01, it was an Audi S4. That blew up pretty fast due to faulty turbos and I got my Max as a daily driver. Didn't last too long before I tinkered with it.

My R32 was my winter beater last year, and became my 1 car after I sold off all the other cars. I didn't have the time or the space to drive/keep them.

Now I have suspension up the azz on the R, and I'm doing Alcon 8 piston 14.5" brakes on it spring time.....

insurance will still be pricy at 21. i pay just over $1000 a year for the 675 and it will be 315 a yr once i turn 25. then again, we don't have just the base coverage. a 250cc will be cheap if you're just going for any bike to learn. i know i was quoted 320 a yr for one a yr back. check with all the places, state farm is usually the cheapest since the go by cc's and not by class.

yeah, the cost of insurance is the whole reason mine is not insured or registered yet. i want to get it done under my dads name, but nobody knows that i bought anything yet. besides riding season doesnt start for another 3 months, ive got plenty of time.

oh, the thrill of a bike is crazy. i rode on mikes bike, the 01 zx6r and loved it from the day i sat on it. yeah it takes a huge toll on you when you ride up the galena and then back in one day. you are physically and mentally tired, but its the experience of the ride. if you want to relax on long rides, you need a cruiser not a crotch rocket.

DasTeknoViking
12-31-2008, 01:22 PM
Once you have been riding a crotch for a while, you start to find "comfort" spots on the bike. I for instance straddle the bike and hang my legs off the rear foot pegs and lay down on the tank. This takes alot of strain off your upper body, its mosty your shoulders and lower back that hurt the most as you are leaning forward the whole time.

You can ride a crotch slow, actually they are MUCH safer bikes to learn on than anything else. Why ? Because they are LIGHT. Most people are not used to trying to hold a 400+lb machine between their legs- balanced. Look at all these cruisers, they are 700+lb machines. Some mid life crisis fawk gets on one for the 1st time, you try to control it ! Crotch is easier to maneouver due to its light weight. Its a racing bike for the street. Its ready to rock the house on the track with just a set of GOOD tires !

I highly, and I mean HIGHLY recommend a Ninja 250 for any beginer. Its a such easy bike to ride on. It can get you 100MPG if you ride it right, its VERY light- something like 320lbs or less if I remember it right. Its super reliable, and it looks pretty fuckn cool. Its like a mini ZX6/10R. The new 250s look wicked, actually better looking than the big ZX6R or ZX10R. And Kawasaki makes good bikes, I really wanted a ZX14 for a while. Why ? because woman and I would be comfy on it over a long distance ride, its a huge bike. Its also got some big balls.

200WHP with a few mods, and its easy to ride. It can be docile if needed, or deadly fast when you let it rip.

Motorcycles make you a better driver also, you pay WAY more attention to the roads.

All you need to know about the Kawi. I very highly recommend this bike to anyone starting up.

Best part about this bike, if you keep it nice- no damage or anything, you will probably not loose ANY $$ on this bike at all. They are hard to find in the spring/summer time. Watch the little video on the bike.

werd, you have to learn your bike, and you can do long trips pretty comfortable
had a 600rr for 2 years, and now i have my 1000rr for over a year and a half

and yes all attention is on you when you ride the crotch, chicks dig it, no matter what car you drive pull up with the bike, and shes all on you
:)
best part is actually all the little kids glued to their windows looking and admiring your machine, i know how it feels, i was the same way, that is when i give them a rev to put a smile on their face

yep, i loved the kids looking at you when you ride. and then you notice them and give them a rev and they go nutz. the only thing i hated is when they say "do a wheelie" yeah its fun, but shit. its when you do things like that, that you get into trouble.

Fix up the Max for a DD and keep on rockin a bike. Its so much more fun, and economical than a car.

Just kick the bad habits to the curb, as any kinda influence on a bike = death.

i dont think that would work like that.

when i called statefarm and inquired about a quote she asked me who its titled under...i said most likely me. she then aked me who the primary driver would be, i said me, but my dad would ride it from time to time....then she flat out told me, if its under your dads name, and im marked as the secondary drive its going to be alot cheaper. so thats what im trying to pull off.

but i dont think you can insure something under your dads policy if its titled in your name.

probably not. Mine's titled under my dad and under his policy but i'm the primary driver with them. I would say it's probably best to ask your insurance provider and see where they stand on it. usually it goes under the person who has it titled

anything will knock you on your ass. doesnt matter if its a 50cc or a 1300cc. if you ride all cocky and try to perform above your abilities, your going to be laid out flat on your ass.

going 100mph on a bike is not fast at all, thats when you start feeling the speed. going 80mph on a bike feels like your going 40 in a car. seriosily it does. and lets face it, if you loose control at a hundo, your either going to fuck yourself up really really bad, or die. your not just going to hurt yourself.

250 might be a bit small and you'll get bored of it quickly. if you go that route, get used. i talked to plenty of people and while a 600 is powerful, you'll be fine as long as you practice and have self-control. just remember that you can get hurt if you push yourself beyond your limits so start slow. take it around the block or parking lot for like 15 to 20 miles and keep practicing. move up as you get comfortable. and definitely take the MSF course. it's very basic but teaches you a lot if you've never ridden

completely agreed. i learned a ton from that class. its really slow moving, but all 3 days are well worth it. and its a plus cuz then you dont have to take the driving test at the dmv. you take it during the class.

I'm def going to take to course, there are no questions about it, insurance also goes down once you do.

I was just reading another topic about bikes and how you guys think it's better to go bigger... I might consider that

I say death on the bike is quick and easy way out of todays economy ! As sick as it sounds, seriously.... world is one fucked up place right now.

Get a bike, fuck the rents live it up. Not much going to be left of it in the next 5 years.

+1 you only live once so why pass up the chance at some fun? just push your parents a little at a time and eventually they'll give in.

yeah, mine still havent given in. but i told them that when i roll around on the bike dont be pissed. i gave them plenty of warning before hand, so they shouldnt act surprised when i pull the bike into the garage.

im gonna bring it home just as soon as its insured.........im not taking the chance at riding it without insurance. having a plate is optional, but insurance is a must. even though its only in parkridge.
