we invested in a sawzall and are cutting it up in pieces... and putting it on the front lawn on garbage days... scrap trucks drive around here all the time and pick up stuff.. normally it won't last 10 minutes in the summer.. usually lasts a few hours in the winter...
They pick up parts as large as a hood.. it just has to fit in the back of their pick up truck and they take it away...
Invest in a good sawzall (or borrow or rent one?), cut it up and throw it in the garbage is what I'd recommend if you don't have the junk trucks driving around in your neighborhood.

YEAH, i do that on my spare time too. its fun cutting a car up and shit.
we called a junker for the rest of the acura stuff we had and he gave us $50 for the scrap. car was already paid for, and we used those parts on 3 other cars so it was no biggie.

would he come to mt. prospect and give us $50 to take away what we have left as well?
PM me the info if yes.. thanks

this was back a year or so ago...so yeah.
and then i sold 5 cats, i used to get $125 per cat. i just recently sold them and only got $20 each. not worth it at all, well until the market and the precious metal prices go back up.

I kind of figured that.. We were worried the junk trucks would stop driving around to get stuff but so far they still are... so we are sticking to the plan of doing that...
..and yeah, I felt ripped off only getting $35 for the cat, I guess I got lucky getting that much from the guy this time.. I remember getting $90 for 1 a year ago as well...

yeah, the cats used to pay well, now its not even worth it to grab the old ones from work and drive them to franklin park. oh well.
grab that scrap guys number. then whenever you need a pick up, im sure he will stop by. its guaranteed metal, he doesnt have to go searching for it. he will probably even help you take it out of the garage.

junkyards. but they dont pay shit anymore. i used to go to a couple diff ones in franklin park, but now its not even worth the drive. they probably pay less now, since precious metals arent worth crap anymore. go figure, the junker at work hasnt showed up for over 3 weeks now. before he used to come bi weekly

yup, the metal got thrown away with the garbage.. junk truck didn't bother stopping by this time.. just regular garbage pick up...
and so it shall be, cut up in pieces thrown away in the regular trash.. lol

yeah, thanks... We want to get this heap out of the garage by March the lastest so we can bring in the next project car PLUS we have to take the spec miata out of storage in March as well so the garage will be full again and the R32 gets to sit outside in summer...

hey, i know that the garbage guys picked your stuff up already. but i did a quick search on craigslist and came up with a bunch of people wanting to pick up scrap.
get a bunch of it and just call one of them. i know my local garbage people will not take body parts ith normal garbage pickup.

yeah i figured it helps the economy.
helps you get crap out of your garage, helps him make money to feed family and buy crap....win win situation if you ask me.
got to think ahead.

I recently took about 500lbs worth of steel and some aluminum to this recycling place on Division/Cicero and got like 28 bucks lol....
It was all old car parts that I just tossed in the back yard when I did repairs on my cars for, about 9 months worth of parts
Chris
01-22-2009, 01:46 PM
the time we'd waste and fuel to get there and back makes it not worth it though (driving all the way to division and cicero and back) ...not for something as measly as $28 that would have to go back in the truck for fuel and the time wasted... ick.. lol

I'm sure there's places closer to you, this recycling center is about .8 miles from my house which is why I took it there..
I do see your reasoning though and that is one of the reasons why I never did it until I realized there was a place right next to me
Chris

well, now that we got more off the car, might start calling to see if anyone would pay and how much vs just cutting up the rest of it at this point:
